Dear Swan Lake Community,

Happy New Year!

As I wrote earlier and will write in each letter until the opening, the Swan Lake Board’s top priority is opening Swan Lake for 2021. The Board wants Swan Lake to be ready for opening next Memorial Day weekend and the City’s COVID rules might be the only cause of delay.

The Board had their monthly meeting on January 13, 2021. Swan Lake has a working draft Budget for 2021, thanks to Tony Tosheff, a Swan Lake Board member. As I mentioned in my last letter, most simplified future budgets’ are created from the past year’s budget. Since Swan Lake and the world changed dramatically since 2019, Tony relied on 2017, 2018 and 2019.  Even if we must tweak with some line items in the draft budget, the Board is cautiously optimistic about Swan Lake’s 2021 draft Budget.  Armed with a Budget, Board members were able to vote among estimates—and reputation of contractors-- for a new roof, which Swan Lake badly needs if it is to be ready for opening.

The Safety Committee (Chelsea, Sthefane, Tanya and Becca) met on January 12th.  The Committee came up with questions the Board members must ask itself, including in subjects such as waivers, sign up, guests, temperature checks, masking, furniture, cleaning, bathrooms etc and recommendations.  The Committee had recommendations such as suggestions to advocate early with the City to have explicit timely language regarding outdoor pools with a group of other City pools and the future Manager and Assistant Manager should enforce Swan Lake’s COVID Rules instead of the relying on the young lifeguards.  On January 13th, the City Rules were limiting outdoor recreational spaces, including outdoor pools, to 25% of capacity but it’s still early and the Safety Committee will be meeting and monitoring the situation.

Further, the Swan Lake Swim Team Committee met on January 12th. Tony, who is also on the Swim Team Committee, presented for the Swan Lake Swim Team regarding Team’s calendar, size of the Team and Teams’ Budget. The vote for the Team’s Budget was tabled till February’s monthly meeting.

Finally, the entire Board is handling the hiring the Manager, Assistant Manager, Head and Line Lifeguards. The Board needs the Swan Lake community to publicize among family, friends and co-workers about these open positions.

Please email or call me if you want to assist in any way you can. Happy New Year!

Thank you.

Sincerely,
