Knowledge Matters Virtual Business Challenge Launches for 2021

Challenge open to all Secondary Division Student Members

It’s time for the seventh annual BPA Virtual Business Challenge! Knowledge Matters is excited to announce the addition of a new competition track to the VBC, offering not one but two tracks for Secondary Division students to compete in: the traditional Accounting track, and the newly launched Entrepreneurship track!

In the Entrepreneurship track, participants will spot opportunities, conduct market research, make the plunge and open their business. They will raise finances, build a team, acquire resources, organize workflow, determine risks, develop marketing strategies, and more. Don’t let your chapter members miss out on their opportunity to compete for a chance to win scholarship money!

The Virtual Business Challenge is an event sponsored by Knowledge Matters and BPA. Team registration for both BPA Virtual Business Challenges (VBC) will begin at 10 a.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, January 21. Please have your members visit https://knowledgematters.com/highschool/competitions/bpa/ to register and participate in this totally interactive technological competition.

The event is based on the classroom versions of the Virtual Business Accounting & Entrepreneurship simulations, so if your students already have online Virtual Business accounts, they will not have to register for new accounts. They will, however, still have to create new VBC teams.

As this event is completely web-based, students may compete from home or from school. This event offers the flexibility for participants to compete from wherever they have Internet access. The dates for this year’s event are: February 1, 10:00AM ET – February 26, 5:00PM ET.

IMPORTANT –
  • ADVISOR ACCOUNTS: You will need to log in to approve teams registered under your chapter. Advisor accounts have already been created, however, accounts will not be accessible until the first day of registration which is January 21. To log in to advisor accounts, please visit: https://vb.knowledgematters.com/ and use the following log in credentials:
    • Email: Please use the email address associated to your Secondary Division Chapter in the BPA Member Registration System
    • Password: password
      • *Please change your password as soon as you log in.
*NOTE: If you already have an online Virtual Business account affiliated with your email address, advisors are encouraged to continue using that same log-in information and not set up a second account.

New Virtual Internship Opportunity for Post-secondary Division Students Announced

The National Center is pleased to announce the launch of a brand new Post-secondary Division Virtual Internship Experience.

Over the past year, many businesses have reduced or removed internship opportunities completely as a result of the pandemic. This will impact many BPA students seeking an internship experience. The Virtual Internship Experience was designed to support the need for experiential learning opportunities and offer a means for BPA student members to gain practical insight into key career paths, as well as an opportunity to build career skills and experience. There are many meaningful projects available through virtual internships and through remote engagement; BPA students can work with the National Center staff and leadership from anywhere across the country to support various projects ranging from basic social media support or calendar scheduling/coordination to full digital marketing development, grant research, membership data analysis, business projects, basic website updates, and more.

National BPA virtual internships are unpaid, will include training/orientation, focus on learning and developing new skills, as well as offer an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of concepts through hands-on application of knowledge. There is an opportunity for students to earn academic credit which is dependent on degree plan requirements and varies by college/university academic program.

There are currently two unpaid virtual internship experiences available for Post-secondary students to apply for: National BPA Grant Analyst Internships and Digital Marketing Internships.

Posts-secondary Division members can learn more about the program in the BPA Member Gateway at: https://members.bpa.org/virtual-internship-program/. Applicants must be dues paying members in good standing with Business Professionals of America to be eligible. For questions regarding the Virtual Internship Experience, please contact Director of Marketing & Stakeholder Engagement, Heather Bunning, at hbunning@bpa.org.
