Southwest Colorado Canyons Alliance collaborates with the Bureau of Land Management to engage the public through education, outreach, and stewardship for the use and enjoyment of the natural and cultural landscape of Canyons of the Ancients National Monument and nearby public lands.

TODAY is the best day to join SCCA, renew your membership, or make a special donation to Southwest Colorado Canyons Alliance! I can think of at least seven reasons why:
7. 2021 holds many promises of renewal of our programming such as Wilderness Study Area monitoring and volunteer work service days.
6. We look forward to reviving the Trail Information Specialist program. Would you like to train as a volunteer at key spots in Canyons of the Ancients?
5. Canyons of the Ancients National Monument has just welcomed its permanent Monument Manager, Ray O’Neil! We look forward to working with him to protect our amazing lands. He comes to us from Saguaro National Park as their Chief Ranger.
4. Other positions at CANM are being filled, too: Thomas Adams is the new administrative assistant and Sarah Shapiro is the new outdoor recreation manager. More positions have been posted and will soon be determined.
3. The Cultural Site Stewardship Program volunteers are still out there monitoring sites, even in the winter! They have been keeping a keen eye on our cultural sites through increased visitation.
2. We are excited to have even more people learn about our exceptional landscape and ancient cultures through Tours by SCCA. All participants are screened for COVID-19 and required to wear a mask.

Last year, showed extraordinary increases in visitation to our local public lands and resulted in overwhelming demands on our BLM partner. Now, is a crucial time to support SCCA, the designated Friends group for CANM, to ensure that we can make a concerted effort to educate new visitors to our area on how to recreate responsibly and mobilize our volunteers to clean up after those who don’t. The shared love for our local landscape abounds.
This is the best day to deepen your commitment to the public lands in our own backyard to ensure not only the protection of our natural and cultural resources but also our collective health and well being that enjoying these places bestows to all of us.

Charitable Giving Incentives:Current federal legislation reestablishes the temporary $300 above-the-line deduction for people who do not itemize their deductions and establishes a $600 deduction for couples filing jointly in 2021. This also extends for one year the increased limits on deductible charitable contributions for individuals who itemize and for corporations.
