14 funds, and materials to combat vaccine fraudsters

 

COVID-19

Your organisation may need a COVID-19 risk assessment

Welsh Government will soon be asking organisations employing five or more people to make a specific COVID-19 risk assessment. Support pages and materials are expected to go live this week, and you can learn more on the Welsh Government’s COVID-19 news release about the development.

Vaccine fraud

Please make your service users aware that fraudsters are trying try exploit the vaccine rollout. The NHS will never:
  • ask for payment as the vaccine is free
  • ask for anyone’s bank details
  • arrive unannounced at someone’s home to administer the vaccine
  • ask someone to prove their identity by sending copies of their personal documents like a passport
 

Funds

AB Charitable Trust

Deadline: 31/01/21. 
Grants of £10k to £20k are available to fund charities who:
  • deliver services to improve outcomes for individuals in the criminal justice system and their families
  • support effective rehabilitation in the community
  • work to influence policy and to reform the criminal justice system

Funding for Christian charities promoting social inclusion

Deadline: 31/01/21
Grants of between £500 and £10k per year are available to Christian charities that encourage social inclusion through ministries of healing and the arts. Funding can be awarded for up to three years. The foundation will consider applications for either capital or revenue funding. Only in exceptional circumstances will grants be given for building work. Masonic Charitable Foundation Hospice Grants

Deadline: 8/02/21
Grants of up to £35k are available to support projects which improve equality and diversity in hospice care running over an 18-month period. Learn more on the Hospice UK website.

New grants for projects using technology in vocational learning

Deadline: 11/02/21.
VocTech Seed 2021 provides grants of £15k to £50k for early stage projects that use digital technology in vocational learning. The scheme looks to fund proposals that are at a relatively early stage which help to prototype ideas and work out next steps. Learn more on the VocTech Trust’s website

National Energy Action (NEA) grants

Deadline: 12 noon 12/02/21.
The NEA is trying to build awareness and confidence in smart meters and ensure that people in two target groups understand how smart meters can benefit them. There are two grants to support this:

  • one is up to £25k for organisations that can deliver support to people who are offline
  • the other is for up to £10k for organisations that can deliver support to people on a low income

They are seeking organisations that are trusted voices in their community. Learn more on the NEA’s website.
 

Call for Cynon Valley organisations to apply for the Pen Y Cymoedd Fund

Deadline: 15/02/21
The Pen Y Cymoedd Wind Farm Community Fund is particularly keen to attract applications for their Micro Fund from the Cynon Valley at the moment. The Micro Fund is for applications of up to £5k and is about supporting communities. See more information on our funding page.

The Harold Hyam Wingate Foundation

Deadline: 21/02/21
Funding is available for organisations working in the areas of:

  • Jewish life and learning
  • performing arts (excluding music)
  • music and medical research travel grants

The Ashden Awards 2021

Deadline: 3/03/21
The competition is about supporting the world’s next climate champions so they grow faster and spread further. Winners receive a prize of up to £20k and a package of support for climate projects. Read more on the Ashden Climate Solutions in Action website.

Volunteering Wales Grants reopen 

Deadline: 12/04/21.
Grants are available of to £20k to identify opportunities for more people to volunteer. This year’s grant scheme will focus on 10-month interventions that: 

  • tackle barriers to volunteering
  • give a positive experience for the volunteer
  • make a long-lasting impact on the community

The Windrush Community Fund

The UK government has opened a £500k Windrush Community Fund. Community and grassroots organisations can bid for up to £25k in two separate phases. The money is to ensure all people affected by Windrush are aware of the support available through the Windrush Scheme and Windrush Compensation Scheme. Learn more and apply on .gov.uk.

Economic Resilience Fund Sector Specific Grant and Restrictions Business Fund

This fund is now open. Get your application in quickly as the deadline is two weeks or on a first come first served basis. Read more on Business Wales’s website.

Moondance Foundation

This foundation has just made an extra £10 million available for Welsh charities and organisations who are supporting people struggling due to COVID-19. If you’re making a genuine and valuable contribution, visit the Moondance website to find out how to apply.

The Volant Trust: COVID-19 Response Fund

The trust is making available funds to:
  • alleviate social deprivation
  • help vulnerable groups who have been particularly affected by the pandemic
While the window for receiving a decision by April has closed, the round for receiving a decision by October has now opened. Learn more on the Volant Trust’s website.

Grants for the conservation of wildlife and the environment

The HDH Wills 1965 Charitable Trust makes monthly grants to support the conservation of wildlife and the environment. The trust makes grants of between £250 and £500 (sometimes up to £5k) to general, environmental and wildlife charities. There are no deadlines. Grants may be made towards revenue, capital or project expenditure and email, postal or online applications are accepted. Learn more on the HDH Wills website.

 

Training and events

Accessing the Outdoors 2

Date: 9:30 to 11am 4/02/21
At this event, you can discuss how providers can work with partners to promote outdoor activities. We will look at activities with children and young people, with films and presentations which will include the South Central Wales Area Statement.

Also, you will be able to learn from feedback from the first event. You can share practice and network with other attendees too, who will include Natural Resources Wales, Cwm Taf Public Service Board, and Valleys Regional Park.

Strengthening Governance and Leadership for Trustees

This online course will take you through a range of leadership and governance principles based on the Charity Governance Code. Book the governance and leadership event on the WCVA’s website.

Support, Supervision and Appraisal

This course is for anyone in a line management role, whether you are experienced and looking for a refresher or if you are new to managing people. Tell Welsh Government (WG) your thoughts about their draft digital strategy

WG are looking to achieve an economic recovery and improve society by how we use technology. They’ve shared their draft digital strategy plans in a series of blog posts here, and they’re keen for community and voluntary sector groups to provide feedback via this online form.

Win up to £2k by completing NCVO’s survey

Deadline: 28/01/21
The NCVO wants to gather evidence of the pandemic’s affect on charities, community groups and social enterprises. Filling in the survey about the pandemic’s affect on volunteering enters you into a monthly prize draw for £200. At the end of the project, there will be a prize draw for £2000.
