Meet our new staff!

Eric Van Dam headshot
Please welcome Eric Van Dam, our newest DVSA advocate!

Eric joins the Advocacy team in supporting our community members as they navigate difficult situations in relation to domestic violence and other interpersonal conflicts. They believe that all individuals have the right to live in a safe environment that allows for personal growth.

Eric has worked in various positions across the medical industry: lead and support staff positions at group homes, particularly ones that have residents with traumatic pasts, assisting companies file medical insurance for their employees, and coordinating/brokering medical transportation for clients via their various medical insurance plans.

Eric has studied biochemistry rather extensively at Rochester Institute of Technology, and is currently pursuing a Social Work license through the Family Social Sciences program at the University of Minnesota.

Becca Gibson headshot
Please welcome Rebecca Gibson, our new part time ASL Interpreter!

Becca works with the interpreting team at ThinkSelf providing accessibility services for our community. She is passionate about using her skillset to promote social justice, equity and mental health awareness and is grateful to have the opportunity to do so in a Deaf-led advocacy organization.

Becca is a nationally certified ASL interpreter with experience in post-secondary education, DVSA work, and theater interpreting. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Interpreting with a minor in Spanish from St. Catherine University and a Bachelor’s degree in Italian Studies from the University of Minnesota.

Becca is a passionate language enthusiast and spends a lot of her free time studying spoken and sign language linguistics. She hopes to one day work with international Deaf communities to help promote accessible interpreting services and equitable language access.

Throughout their campaign and transition, the Biden-Harris team has demonstrated a deep commitment to equitable participation by providing captions, ASL interpretation via Certified Deaf Interpreters, transcripts, and much more! Today's inauguration is no exception. Visit bideninaugural.org/accessibility/ to check out all the ways they made today's celebration accessible!

A small group of people is visible to the left on bleachers. Captions at the bottom read "and domestic I will bear true faith and allegiance." On the right side of the video is an ASL interpreter in a small box, her right hand is raised. The text Biden Harris Inauguration is on the bottom right.
