Bible Reading

Our Pastor has been speaking to the young people and to us all about adding to your faith as written in the above passage. "Christian mathematics" as he put it !!  At first sight Peter's list of virtues appear to contradict the foundational theme of grace. The direction to add "self-control" to the list especially seems to contradict the N.T. theme of human helplessness and our utter dependence on the grace of God to live the kind of life He requires.
By itself, the demand for self-control appears more Stoical than Christian, and if we supposed that we had achieved even a small measure of this standard we would be in danger of pride in works of which Paul says "No man can boast".

It seems to me that these verses highlight the fundamental tension between God's sovereign grace and human responsibility that is a key part of the Christian walk. This tension so often causes Christians to become unbalanced to one side or the other of leaving it all to God or trying to do it all ourselves. The middle ground, I think, is found in verses 2-3; we are given "grace and peace" (v2) and "divine power" (v3) without which we could not even begin to live up to or live out these standards.

As you may know, Ridgeway Community Church supports Slavic Gospel Association (SGA). They produce an update on their work regularly. Here is a link to news of the work in Eastern Russia through the sponsored leadership project. A remarkable testimony to God's power and grace.

Hey I missed a week!

Catch up!

...or watch again. Browse our services from February 2021.
This Sunday our Pastor will be preaching on ”The Grace of God and You”. In Paul’s letter to Titus we read these words ” For the grace of God has appeared bringing salvation for all people, training us….”. What is this grace? What does it train us, teach us to do and become?
This Sunday Peter Coggins from Woodgreen Evangelical Church will be preaching on the subject of “Friends.” The BIble passage is Mark 2:1-12. A paralysed man has great friends who are determined to get him to Jesus for healing. However, he finds that his deepest need is in his soul, not his body and that his greatest friend is Jesus – the friend of sinners.
This Sunday our Pastor will be preaching on ”The loveliness of Jesus seen in you”. Based on Titus 2 verse 9 and 10 we take a look at how the believer in Jesus is so very precious and valued in the sight of God. Others may have status in this world and are proud of their achievements, but the Christian is in the best place of all – their living to please Jesus is worth more than anything else.
This Sunday our Pastor will be preaching on “Men and women in the church”. What shall I aim for in the church? What should I do? Does my gender matter? What about equality? 2000 years ago those issues were touched upon when Paul wrote to Titus who had to sort out the church congregations on the Mediterranean island of Crete. We will take a look at what was written and see what that means for the church today!
