Saturday at the Roundhouse

                                                January 23nd

Winter weather has come to northeast Ohio and the Roundhouse.  Our outside work is limited, but there remains much that can be done inside the shop and stalls.
Welding will continue on 4070's cab. It is nearing completion and soon the cab will be ready for cleaning and painting. Still need to weld in much of the interior angles and braces.
The America car still has a list of chores that needs to get done. Interior cleaning and polishing the brass rails are among the jobs list posted on the car. Take a look and see if there is something there in your skill set.
For many years, the tool room has been used as a general catch all and is always a jumble.  Our goal now is to reorganize the tool room into a machine shop to generate more working space in the shop and relocate mechanic tools and parts to the stalls where they are used.  Midwest has several useful machine tools under tarps stored outside that could be useful in making parts for 4070.  Before we can move anything, we have to make space to move it to. Over the past several work sessions, volunteers have done a great job moving material out of stalls 4/5.  Now we can reorganize the stock rack there and build a better one out of pallet racking retrieved from one of the pits.
Two major jobs in the tool room.  First, the drywall ceiling is badly deteriorated and needs to come down.  The plywood decking may need some work and some additional trim work. Second the concrete pad needs to be jack hammered out and resurfaced.  Frustrated with politics? Covid? Grab a jack hammer and let it all out. We have protective gear, but if you have your own bring it.
Our lunch room has seen some major upgrades this past year, but still needs a new linoleum floor covering to help keep it clean. The material is on hand, we just need a volunteer with those skills.
Our collection of documents for 4070 is expanding and we need a volunteer to help collate and maintain the storage of the drawings. both paper and electronic.  All should remain on site and be accessible.
The RPCA Conference committee is looking for volunteers to help out.  A lot of work has been done but there is still plenty of work to do.  We have new artwork and graphic designs for the convention. Contact the office or any Board member if you are interested in being part of this endeavor in any way.

The roundhouse is a safe and compliant place to work and interface with others. Masks are required. Common areas are continually being sanitized for our safety.
