Hello Jubilants,

If you like salty snacks or have a salty attitude or drink a salty dog, you expect some flavor, some bite. Salty is not bland. So when Jesus tells us we’re the salt of the earth, he doesn’t expect dull.

Someone full of the spirit brings the zest! Spirit people shine when they show up. They light up the room without putting on the extra-shiny face in the morning or dancing in the lamp-shade at the party. It’s the zest and shine of being fully present – right here, right now. It’s the shine of being seen.

When we’re present to the moment, we’re present to God in the moment. When we’re present to God in the moment, we’re present to God in each other. And, wowza, how that lights us up!

This week we are celebrating being Rooted and Grounded in Presence. So feel your feet and the air on your skin, take a deep breath, give thanks for this moment, and listen to Mary Oliver:

Instructions for living a life:
Pay attention.
Be astonished.
Tell about it.

See you Sunday!

A Letter from Jackie

Dear Jubilee! Community,

This Community has been my heart and home for over 15 years - first as a community member and then, for the past seven years, as your Director (and then Minister) of Community Life. I feel so grateful and lucky that I got to be a part of something this wildly unique and exciting for so long - to be one of the privileged ones who got to shepherd the Jubilee! experiment and vision for a period of time. And I’m grateful that I could be a part of the glue that held it together during one of the more challenging times in its history. This community has supported and grown me as much as I have supported and grown it.

And now, the good ship Jubilee! (as Howard was fond of calling us) is heading in new and amazing directions, and I must chart a different course. While many forces are at play around this decision, in many ways it feels like it is being made for me. The universe has conspired to make this the next right step - Jubilee! has great leadership and is thriving online; everyone, from businesses to individuals are having to make challenging financial decisions in regards to surviving and thriving in the times of COVID; and I've been given an opportunity to grow my part-time position into full time as part of Ram Dass' Love Serve Remember Foundation, where I will do similar work but with an international audience.

While I will miss being able to serve this community, I am grateful for the years we've been together. And I bow to each and every one of you for the ways you have shown up as part of this community. It truly is a blessing!

And so I offer a blessing in return - may the weeks, months, and years ahead provide smooth sailing on brilliant blue waters to exciting new destinations!  Jubilee! is a gift and you all are an amazing part of that gift. And I know you will keep on making the main thing the main thing for years and decades to come.

Namaste, Blessed Be and O'yeah!
Jackie Dobrinska

So Many Ways to Contribute & Connect

TAKE PART IN JACKIE'S GOING AWAY CELEBRATION
While the entire Jubilee! Community is greatly saddened by Jackie's upcoming departure, we also send much love and light to her as she moves forward in this exciting next step in her journey.  We will celebrate the amazing impact Jackie has had on our community at our February 7th Sunday Celebration.  In the meantime, we invite you to help us build a virtual gratitude wall to Jackie on our website...full of well wishes, blessings and memories of the last 15 years. Please send brief messages (we know you have loads of great stuff to say about Jackie, but please keep to 50 words max), photos, video links, etc. to michele4sf@gmail.com to be included on the gratitude wall.

SACRED LANDS, SACRED BODIES
Jubilee! is part of Creation Care Alliance, an organization that is offering a chance to connect and renew hope with a symposium called Sacred Lands, Sacred Bodies; Faithfully Caring for People and Place on January 28th & 29th. Designed with creation care volunteers and clergy in mind, this retreat allows you to spend the time with colleagues, friends and clergy who care about people and our planet. The event includes science, spirituality, practical tips, prayer, ritual, stories of creation care and resilience from congregations practicing right relationship with practical steps for caring for our neighbors and the earth. Time will be included for regionally based brainstorming and discussion.  Sign up here.

ECO-GRIEF CIRCLE

Creation Care Alliance is also offering a seven-week Eco-Grief Circle on Thursdays.  Although the circles started last week, you can still join as long as space is available. This is an opportunity to explore grief, sorrow, anxiety, fear, guilt, shame, anger and despair related to the social and ecological challenges of our time. Eco-Grief Circles offer mutual support, healing, insight and love but are not a grief therapy experience.  The leadership team includes counselors, pastors and environmental advocates. Learn more and register here.

END OF LIFE LITERACY WORKSHOP
Honor your life and your loved ones by preparing for your death! Preparing both internally and externally for our own death can help our loved ones know what to expect, guide our own process, reduce worry, and allow us to devote our attention, when it’s time, to the mystery and magic of the dying process. This two-day workshop takes place on January 29th and February 5th.  It will focus on death literacy and provide an overview of the entire spectrum of end of life paperwork with a core focus on the Five Wishes. Learn more and register here.
