The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) has been approached by a number of growers in the grains industry, with concerns over the availability of workers for the upcoming seeding period. There are several workforce recruitment options for WA growers, outlined in the Factsheet: (Recruitment options for agricultural workers in WA.pdf). Please note this is still in draft, and is subject to change. A suggestion has been made to source workers from New Zealand using a chartered flight. This proposal will cost approximately $4,000 per worker, which will not be covered by the WA Government. Please advise the number of employees you anticipate you will require after completing recruitment within Western Australia (and nationally?), and would seek to source from New Zealand via a chartered flight. Feedback is required directly to Alex Edward (alex.edward@dpird.wa.gov.au) by 5pm, Tuesday 26 January 2021.
