DUT HONOURS STAFF AND STUDENTS FOR MAKING ENVISION 2030 A REALITY

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) recently hosted the DUT Virtual Council Awards together with the Research and Innovation Awards to honour students and staff for making the Envision 2030 a reality. 

Gracing this prestigious ceremony were two guest speakers namely Professor Jako Olivier and Professor Rubin Pillay. Prof Olivier is a UNESCO Chair on Multimodal Learning and Open Education Resources. He is a Professor in Multimodal Learning: Research Unit Self-Directed Learning, Faculty of Education, North-West University. Meanwhile Prof Pillay is a Professor of Medicine and Professor of Business.

MASUKU TALKS ABOUT HIS LEADERSHIP JOURNEY AT DUT

“When you enter in student leadership with good intentions, it feels good because you are doing something that you like and are called for, to serve students,” said Durban University of Technology (DUT), Andile Masuku.

Masuku (23) is the newly appointed Student Development Officer and it is safe to say he is deserving of such a position looking at his previous achievements. He passed his Child and Youth Care Development Degree with Cum Laude in 2020 and is completing his master’s degree this year.

DUT HOSTS DATA DAY AWARDS

In honouring the staff with outstanding presentations on how data is being used to transform the Durban University of Technology (DUT) in line with the Envision 2030, the university recently hosted an online DUT Data Day Awards.

This comes after DUT held a five-day virtual DUT Data Day to raise awareness about the institutional research and institutional data sets that exist across the university, in November 2020.

DUT Data Day provides an opportunity for the DUT community to showcase and learn about the different types of data and DUT uses data at the university. It focuses on institutional data and on understanding the importance of applying data to guide decision making within DUT.

HADEBE’S LOVE AND PASSION FOR WRITING KEEPS ON GROWING

Durban University of Technology (DUT) Alumna, Gugulethu Hadebe never stopped writing and cementing herself after winning the DUT’s Annual Creative Writing competion in 2019.

Hadebe completed her National Diploma in Library and Information Studies in 2020 and is awaiting graduation.

The Mpumalanga (Ermelo) born Hadebe, says that she has always been passionate about writing from a very young age. “When I was growing up, I used to recite poems,” she said.
