Fixture Changes!

How lucky are we to have had such a ripping cricket season when, back in October, we had no idea what it was going to look like with covid restrictions, potential for another lockdown and halt to community sport.

I know that the AGCC committee is feeling pretty happy to have had so much cricket being played and over 500 players taking the field in the AGCC this season. Just what we all needed.

At the beginning of the season we were encouraged by CV to play until the end of March in light of anticipated season interruptions. Seeing as that has not materialised (and looking unlikely) we need to be community minded and consider the other tenants that we share our facilities with as well as the logistics that Clubs have to deal with if we continue with our season dates as planned.

We are out of kilter with other associations, such as SECA, and our governing body, ISEC, have shortened their season as well, along with a comparable girls competition in the ECA. We have determined that this is the right thing for us to do as well and know that it will reduce the work load on Clubs trying to manage ground and facilities allocation with Councils.

The fixtures have been updated and the finishing dates will be as follows:

U18 - no change - GF 23 February
16& Under - home & away 7 March, SF 14 March, GF 21 March
13& Under Stage 2 - home & away 3 March, SF 10 March, GF 17 March
13& Under Stage 1 - 10 March
(Please note that we also have the Libby Nicholls and Annabel Sutherland Cups as per last season for those finishing 5th to 8th - details to be sent out later this week).

The fixture changes will suit some clubs and not others.  It will suit some teams and not others.  However what we don’t want to do is compromise Grand Finals by having a couple of weeks full of ground and team related issues that distract from playing out a full season.  We are also mindful of how dark it gets as we move into late March and visibility will be an issue for Wednesday nights.

Ros will update the draws by dropping off the last rounds.  We will not be rescheduling any further matches, so please don’t go through the fixture to work out all of the things that might not be perfect – it might be fun, but it won’t result in us making any changes.

We know that you will understand the intention behind shortening the planned season and we thank you all for the amazing work you have done for our competition to have been the success it has been so far this season.

Play well and we will be in touch with regards to finals qualifications, the Cups, and end of season presentation.

As always, your AGCC Committee,
Ros, Sven, Hannah, Ash, Joel and David
