Sixth Form Applications & Interviews
It is not too late to apply! We are still accepting applications so if you have not yet applied, please use the Word application form and email it, when completed, to 6thform@churchill-academy.org.
We are now scheduling interviews for Term 4; interview details are emailed to students, with a separate email sent to their parent/carer so they are aware of the date and time of the interview. Please do not worry if you don’t hear about your interview date quickly, there is a large number to process and it will take several months to interview all applicants. Due to current restrictions, interviews are being conducted over Zoom at the moment. It would be normal for students to be excused from lessons for a Sixth Form interview during the school day so the same will apply with remote learning. Interviews usually last approximately 15 minutes so just ask your teacher beforehand if you can be excused.

Safeguarding
Avon & Somerset Police
Avon & Somerset Police webinars for parents have been hugely popular and oversubscribed every time they have run them. They are now able to offer a recorded session on YouTube for parents to look at in their own time. The three videos cover topics including:
- Exploitation of children online
- Technical protective and safety measures available
- Tips on starting a conversation with children about the internet and how to use it safely.
|
|
Online Safety
Parents may be interested in information from North Somerset's Youth Offending Team on Apps children may encounter whilst online and, which gives advice on how to disable access levels and report any issues.
We have also been advised about the dangers of a new game, Cunch, about running a County-lines drug supply operation. This game 'appears to have an in-chat facility which would enable grooming/recruitment'. County lines is, as you may know, the illegal distribution of drugs via often abused or coerced young people across the country.

The Churchill Challenge!
The Churchill Challenge is now entering the final ten days, but there is still time to sign up and get involved. Students and staff have now covered an astonishing 44,554 km since the 19th December - enough to circumnavigate the globe and still have enough left over to reach Dakar in Senegal! In the House competition Lancaster are still top of the pile, followed by Windsor, Tutor, Stuart and Hanover.
The PE staff have loved seeing what you’ve been up to, so keep sending those photographs in! You may even have seen our challenge featured on BBC Points West this week!
|
|
This virtual challenge has been a great way for the Churchill Academy Community to stay connected, and for everyone involved to look after their physical and mental health at the same time. We encourage students to build exercise into their daily routines and make it part of their lifestyle.
This is a final call for students to sign up and then get active over the holiday period. Everyone is welcome, whatever your age, and however you choose to move. Thanks again for the support from Challenge Hound who have helped make this possible.
Good luck!
