Along with several partners we recently met with the Honourable David Lametti, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada.
The goal of this meeting was to express our appreciation for the government’s tabling of Bill C-15; legislation to implement the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (Declaration). And to urge the prioritization of this draft Bill through the legislative process this spring.
As the CRC we have made several statements on reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, including an affirmation of the declaration as a "framework for reconciliation." Bill C-15 represents one of many urgent steps on the journey of justice and right relationships.
It is important for Minister Lametti to hear from citizens who support Bill C-15 and the implementation of the declaration as a way for Indigenous rights to be upheld in Canada. You can do important follow up through this action alert.
