Enhancing Access to Data
Over the last few months CEnet has been working to provide member dioceses with an enhanced method of data access and the new Enterprise Data Access (EDA) service is now available.
With the introduction of the Enterprise Interoperability Platform (EIP) service, CEnet has been well placed to deliver a contemporary, enduring and standards based approach to data access for the entire membership. That is, the provision of a set of CEnet Enterprise web service API’s that are aligned to the SIF AU data standard.
The EDA service will enable diocesan data extraction, local application development, external integrations (subject to assessment), as well as other local integration and data activities. A phased approach has been developed, currently phase 1 and 2 APIs are now available for use.
Getting Started
To get started, CEnet member dioceses can access further information via the CEnet Integration Services Portal and once ready to go, can simply log a request with the CEnet Service Desk to gain access. Look for the new Enterprise Data Access category within the CEnet Service Catalogue.
Future APIs & Roadmap
If you would like to be a part of the user group which helps to determine the delivery and priority of future Datasets and APIs, ensure you are a member of the EDA user group - eda@groups.cenet.edu.au ether by logging a request with the CEnet Service Desk or contacting the team directly.

Catholic Learning Online Events 2021
Following the success of the Catholic Learning Online initiative in 2020, the team of eLearning specialists from CEnet member dioceses has been busy planning events for 2021.
February 18 starts with the first of two sessions to be provided by Seesaw to support the CEnet member dioceses introducing Seesaw into schools. While Seesaw supports schools and dioceses with professional learning on a fee-for-service basis, these courses will be delivered at no charge as a result of the group purchase coordinated by CEnet on behalf of fourteen member dioceses.
February 18 also sees the commencement of the Apple Teacher iPad program, which is based on a successful model run in the Wollongong diocese in 2020.
An Apple Teacher Mac program will commence in March.
This year's multi-day online summit coordinated by members of the CEnet eLearning Working Group to support teachers in member dioceses will commence on Monday 12 April. Be sure to save the date!
Rounding out the series of currently planned events is the Google Fundamentals series commencing on 27 May.

Microsoft Mondays
Microsoft Australia is partnering with Girl Geek Academy, education social enterprise, to launch the Girl Geek Academy x Microsoft AI Technical Series to inspire and educate Year 7-10 (13-16 year old) women-identifying students to solve problems through AI through building technical skills.
This free initiative, commencing on 22nd February and running on Mondays from 4.30pm - 6.00pm, will provide a range of opportunities for girls including:
- Learn coding, technical and AI skills in a supportive and engaging environment led by Girl Geek Academy
- Learn practical skills like creating your own website, creating a Chatbot, creating a face tracking app, drawing with code – and much more!
- Access to inspiring women models at Microsoft & Girl Geek Academy – opportunity to hear their career journeys
- Access to virtual sessions in times that suit students: sessions take place after school at 4:30pm-6pm AEST, every Monday from February 22 – June 21 2021

Web Content Filtering Review
CEnet's Web Contend Filtering (WCF) service consists of two parts, but is most commonly known as zScaler within the membership. The WCF service provides a secure web gateway to staff and students within CEnet member diocese networks and provides base protection (filtering) against inappropriate content and internet-based security threats.
In the second half of 2020 CEnet began a review of this service as part of our normal improvement processes and established a project to manage this. The project steering committee, drawn from member dioceses requested that we broaden the scope of the service to encompass the diverse requirements from schools and diocese and as such the review is being approached with the aim of delivering "Safe Internet as a Service". This takes into consideration not only access within diocese/school networks, but also the challenges of remote working and learning.
As part of the review process, the team has:
- Completed an open tender Request for Information (RFI) process, receiving 17 responses from potential providers for this service
- Evaluated the responses via a working group representing all member dioceses
- Prepared recommendations for solutions to move forward with, that were presented to the project steering committee on February 12th
- Planned a Request for Proposal (RFP) process including detailed requirements that address the desired functional outcomes. The RFP is scheduled for distribution in the week commencing February 22nd.

Book of the Week
The CEnet member dioceses ACEN eBook Consortium, with the assistance of Lisa Nash and Saba Maniar from the Digital Learning and Library Services in Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta provide the book of the week feature for students and staff who have access to the SORA eBook Library.
Each week, two reading recommendations for eBooks or audio books, with age guidance are published for primary school students and high school students and to make sure that no-one is left out, there there is a recommendation for staff too.
