Gippsland PHN will host a webinar on Tuesday 16 February from 6-7pm to provide Gippsland general practitioners and practice staff with current information on the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Lucas DeToca, Acting First Assistant Secretary, COVID-19 Primary Care Response with the Australian Department of Health, will head the panel who will provide up to date information on the rollout and answer questions.

** It is extremely important that participants have a sound knowledge of the Bridges Out of Poverty work, preferably you have participated in a two-day training in the last 3 years. Provide details of date and location, or experience when registering.
This 3 day training package is designed to equip participants to train others in the “Bridges Out of Poverty” work. On completion of training participants will have a “limited license” to present this work which allows them to conduct trainings within their organisation.

Cancer Red Flags GP Webinar
Gippsland Regional Integrated Cancer Services (GRICS) in partnership with the Gippsland PHN is excited to present a specialist webinar which has been developed to enhance GP’s understanding of cancer red flags for certain tumour streams. Statewide data indicates that later diagnosis in these particular tumour streams results in poorer outcomes for Gippsland people.
Outcomes:
- Understanding of Gippsland Cancer Services to enhance referral pathways
- Information on Colorectal, Oesophagogastric and Lung Cancer red flags GP’s need to be aware of and relevant investigations to complete
- Knowledge on potential toxicity in patients receiving immunotherapy to assist patient management

Building Therapeutic Communication Capacity in Gippsland (2021)
This is a FREE 3-hour Workshop for SIX people only at each practice.
Gippsland Regional Palliative Care Consortium (GRPCC) and Gippsland PHN are partnering to provide training to general practitioners and practice nurses on evidence based therapeutic communications skills in the context of Palliative Care and Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD). The communication skills learned within these workshops are transferrable across the breadth of care for all patients.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
- Integrate ‘communication frameworks’ to enhance patient engagement in the context of the palliative care and VAD setting and more broadly across the care of all patients
- Distinguish emotion cues to elicit and respond effectively to patient emotions
- Identify and develop skills to improve awareness of and capacity to manage their own vulnerabilities when conducting difficult conversations with patients
- Generate a plan to partner with patients and colleagues to elicit effective communication to ensure patient care and safety in the palliative care and VAD setting

Depression Dilemmas
Depression Dilemmas is a new interactive workshop that tackles areas of treating mood disorders that clinicians can find particularly demanding. Gippsland PHN is offering Gippsland General Practices a free annual subscription to the Train IT Medical Learning Management System (LMS). Train IT Medical LMS is an eLearning platform that can host several courses supporting CPD hosted by Train IT Medical. Courses aim to support general practices to utilise BP Premier and Medical Director clinical software systems, increase data standards and cleaning, participate in Quality Improvement and develop clinical workflows to improve patient outcomes. My Health Record drop-in sessions for hospital staff
Embedding the use of the My Health Record very early in a clinician’s journey through the healthcare system will ensure it will become one of many valuable digital decision support tools routinely accessed to improve patient care.
These sessions, targeted at JMOs and hospital staff, will be delivered as virtual drop-in classrooms with classes every 30 minutes commencing on 16 February 2021. Registrants can choose to attend either a morning or afternoon session.

Drug and Alcohol Addiction Education Program
The ACRRM Drug and Alcohol Addiction Education (DAAE) Program features a suite of incentivised training activities designed to strengthen the capacity of General Practitioners to address drug and alcohol addiction in their communities. Available at no cost to ACRRM members, the DAAE program includes an online learning course, virtual and face-to-face workshops and webinars with subject matter experts, supported by resources for General Practitioners to use within their practice.
Members will also have access to the DAAE Program Hub where they can contribute to Case Studies moderated by ACRRM fellows.
Eligible* ACRRM members may claim an incentive grant following successful completion of each DAAE Program training activity. These incentive grants are based on the level of participation in the program, thus providing real incentives for increased engagement in training activities. The training activities can be done separately, however we strongly encourage you to complete the full suite of activities.

RACGP: Alcohol and other drugs GP education program
The RACGP Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) GP Education Program has been developed to help GPs to support patients experiencing AOD related problems.
The RACGP has expanded the program to respond to the needs of GPs as a result of COVID-19. Members can access AOD Essential Skills online training, discuss AOD cases with their peers on Thursday evenings, or apply for Treatment Skills or Advanced Skills Training. Treatment Skills and Advanced Skills Training attracts a completion payment, rewarding GPs for upskilling in treatment of AOD.
