This Week: Hayhurst Spirit Week - Join the Fun from Home!

Let’s have some fun! Join your Hayhurst Husky community by participating in Spirit Week!

Update:
We're planning to extend spirit week to next week to allow everyone to join the fun. Specifically, with the forecast of snow this week, we plan to postpone/repeat Friday's Hayhurst Husky “Bark” Day next week. Stay tuned!

Wednesday: Sports Team Day
Go Blazers! Go Ducks! Go Beavers! Put on your favorite team’s gear and cheer on your team!

Thursday: Superhero Thank You Day
First, dress up as your favorite superhero or create your own.
Second, think about someone who is a superhero to you. Maybe a teacher has gone out of their way to help you? Maybe a parent does special things for you? Maybe a neighbor is a frontline healthcare worker?
Third, write a note, type an email, or make a phone call and thank those special people who support and care for you.
Be your own superhero and thank another superhero all on the same day!

Friday: Hayhurst Husky “Bark” Day
Wear your Hayhurst husky shirt, hat, or navy (school colors) apparel and get outside to show it off.
Specifically, take a walk, ride your bike, or scoot around your neighborhood between 2-4pm. If you see another person in Hayhurst gear, shout out your best “Bark Bark!”
Let’s see if we can make a scene of Hayhurst Huskies barking all over the place! Just be sure to wear your mask and stick to social distancing measures. Don’t be shy, get out there, show your Husky spirit and Bark!

When you return a bag please make sure that all the books are in the bag (refer to the picture stapled to the bag - and make sure the picture comes back too). If your child is returning books checked out last year please keep these separate from the book bags.

Art Supply Pick-up On Fri., Feb. 19th 1-3 PM - Details, Art Classes, & Call for Volunteers

Hello Parents of Artists!

Thank you for all of the ways your children have inspired me in art class this year thus far!

You have some amazing, talented, funny, and clever children. A reminder that your child has an Asynchronous and a Live art class EVERY WEEK at a specific, given time. Don’t know the time? Please email me or their classroom teacher.

If for some reason your child cannot make the Live weekly class, there are BRAND NEW lessons posted every week on the ART SEESAW platform. I look at the turned in artwork and give personal notes back to EVERY single project turned in by the end of the day.

There are a lot of frustrating things brought on by the pandemic but one of the WONDERFUL things is me getting to hear about your child’s thinking when creating. When I am in the art room teaching there is rarely time for that! Please encourage your child to join me in one way or another.

Another Art Supply Pick-up Coming Up On Friday, Feb. 19th, 1-3 PM
We are planning another art supply pick-up on Friday, February 19th from 1:00-3:00 PM. I would love to work with some new mediums so want to make sure everyone has them in their home.

We will also have some Hayhurst husky profiles and/or hearts made out of wood to paint and be displayed on the fences around our school. Those will be provided to you later.

Volunteer Opportunity: Help Prepare and Distribute Art Supplies
If you can help with the organizing (for example: wind thread around a piece of cardboard for 100 kids, put masking tape around some sharp edges of copper foil, make yarn bundles) and/or delivery of supplies not picked up, please let me know

Thank You
Thank you for all the effort and work you are putting into keeping your student engaged and learning!

Announcing: Parent Community Group - First Meeting  Wednesday, Feb. 17 @ 8 AM

Hello Hayhurst families,

Let us take a moment to acknowledge the difficulties we have all faced for nearly a year now. We have been trying, to the best of our abilities, to adapt to working from home, keeping our kids engaged with their education in ways we could not have foreseen, and have been isolated from family and friends.

And while we are beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel, many of us feel the need to re-establish a sense of connection and community to one another, to validate our experiences and challenges that have emerged during this time, and to help one another discover new ways to embrace resilience.

We invite you to join our community group for parents and caregivers, Waiting for Buses, starting in February, which will be held every other Wednesday from 8am to 9am. You can drop in and stay as long as you would like. The group will be facilitated by our Qualified Mental Health Professional, Ryan Dicker, and will focus mainly on giving parents and caregivers a space to connect and speak freely of their experiences in an effort to support one another.

The 1st group will be held from 8am-9am on Wednesday, February the 17th and can be accessed by the following link: Waiting for Buses.

So grab a coffee or some tea and join us in reconnecting with our community!

FYI: Foothills Soccer Club Spring 2021 Recreational program

Due to COVID, Foothills Soccer Club had to cancel both seasons in 2020. Spring 2021 program details now available (program should open for games only on Saturdays).

Foothills has a return-to-play protocol in place. Families can review this policy as well as find the link to registration on Foothills’ website

The registration fee this year has been frozen at $70 per child to help offset the cost of field rentals. A substantial scholarship program that covers 10%-100% of this fee is available to all families regardless of their financial background.

Foothills is a volunteer run, not-for-profit club which depends on community support to help us in our mission to create a lifelong love of soccer in our kids.

Find Details on Foothills’ Website

FYI: SWPLL Baseball and Softball Registration Open

SWPLL (Southwest Portland Little League)’s upper level baseball and softball programs are open for registration.

Lower levels are expected to open soon, when we secure fields through PPS.
