MISSION

A space for groups and individuals to engage in recreational, social, educational, cultural, community service, civic and governmental activities

Harwich Cultural Center FY21 Quarter 2

Quarter 2 long term studio renters revenue totaled $37,243.50 (October/$13,100.00 + November/$12,050.00 and December/$12,093.50).

The 40 studios at the Harwich Cultural Center have over 58 renters which break out as three nonprofit, two triple, twelve double, twenty-one single, and two Town use storage studios. While the cultural center continues to experience fluctuations in studio renters due to the continued COVID-19 pandemic, the waitlist remains active allowing for new renters as space opportunities become available.

Harwich Recreation Adult Pickleball and After-School-Care remain the only Town sponsored indoor activities at the cultural center. General public activity rentals overseen by Harwich Cultural Center staff, including the once-a-month indoor labyrinth walk, painting classes, public interest meetings, and other workshops continue to be suspended at this time. One in-studio class, children’s sewing, has resumed under the approval of the Harwich Health Director.

Bob Doane’s outdoor Holiday Light Show, while free to attend, brought many visitors to the cultural center for the second year in a row. The socially distant family activity was a welcomed attraction to the holiday season.

In past years, we have welcomed thousands of student visitors to view and create their own artwork reflective of a variety of themes," states their website.

Sanfilippo works in oil on canvas in a shared Harwich Cultural Center studio space creating work often with a social justice theme. A resident of Mashpee, she is a longtime volunteer at Rosies Place, a sanctuary for poor and homeless women, in Boston.

#InspiresHarwich

The Town of Harwich is a quiet resort and agricultural community located on the south side of the Cape peninsula, with an extensive shoreline on Nantucket Sound. The year-round population is approximately 12,677 with a seasonal increase to 37,000. Harwich encompasses 20.93 square miles of land area with 10.9 miles of tidal shoreline. It is located in the 10th Congressional District, the Plymouth, Cape and Islands State Senatorial District. With miles of rivers and marshes and a coastline of sandy beaches dotted with the town's four picturesque harbors, Harwich has the unique ability to provide every form of aquatic activity available: quiet canoeing through the great marshes of the Herring River, water skiing on Long Pond, deep-sea fishing out of the harbors, fly fishing in several of the smaller ponds, or swimming and sunbathing on the sandy Nantucket Sound and Pleasant Bay beaches.

In 2018, the Harwich Cultural Center defined the #InspiresHarwich hashtag to encourage the community to share pictures and events within the town that inspire creativity, the love of our seven Harwich villages, the unity that connect us, and much more. Share what inspires you about our community, include #InspiresHarwich when you’re sharing online!
