Hello Awesome Families! We are missing all of your children's faces and voices! Boyer is such a great space for creativity and learning, but we can have plenty of fun at home too. Check out these ideas from our educators. (If you have not scheduled a Virtual Visit with your team, it's simple! Learn more here.)

BOOKS

Follow along with Teacher Kris as she reads That's Not My Puppy by Fiona Watt, a fun exploration of comparisons and descriptor words.

MUSIC

I’m a Little Puppy Dog
(sing to the tune of “I’m a Little Teapot”)

I’m a little puppy dog
Short and stout,
Give me a bone and take me out.
When I get all worked up then I bark
Get a ball let’s go to the park!
MOTOR

For our gross motor activity this week you get to play ball. Determine what your child is ready for, you can sit across from your child and roll a ball back and forth. If they are ready for the challenge you can work on tossing a ball gently to each other and work on catching it, this is a very challenging skill – so remember to praise any attempts. Encourage your child to hold their arms out and try to catch the ball in their arms then pull it in towards their chest. Also, if your child enjoys pretend play, they can play fetch with a stuffed dog or pretend to be a dog themselves and crawl on the floor to chase the ball. Have fun!
ART

Get your imagination going by creating and decorating a dog house together with your child. Grab a box that is either big enough for some stuffed animals or your kiddo and cut a hole in the side for an entrance. Using markers, stickers, paint, or whatever you have on hand, practice decorating your 3D project together! By encouraging your child to stand up, get inside, and color all over the box you are helping them gain both fine and gross motor strength as well as balance within a fun art activity. For an added pretend play bonus, challenge your child to gather some items to put inside the house for doggy's comfort!

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL

Help your child learn the importance of care taking by giving their favorite stuffed cat or dog a bath. Children can use a wash cloth, water and small cup to get their stuffies clean. Point out the animal's body parts as you clean and help your child practice being gentle. This activity is great for children who are fearful of taking baths themselves!
PS. As we face this pandemic, philanthropic support is more crucial than ever! Gifts of all amounts will make a significant impact. Please consider making a gift today to help meet the most urgent needs of our Boyer community.
