Kemo’s Foot - Another Step out of Poverty

Kemo is begining his third year of being sponsored by ECPK.

Kemo’s mother, who has never had any education and can't read or write, works hard cleaning sheep pens and other low paying jobs. Her first two sons were sent to school and she couldn’t afford to keep them in long enough to graduate. When Kemo went to school, the teachers commented that he was a particularly bright student. After a few years, Kemo was sent home numerous times when his mother was unable to pay the fees. Times were hard, and his mother realised she was, again, unable to continue the education of yet another son.

Because of Kemo’s commitment to school and his giftedness for it, his mum began looking for help. She found Barbara from KINI who lived nearby and asked if Kemo could be sponsored to continue school. Barbara talked to Carole and ECPK provided the funding. Kemo was sent to Massai Christian Academy in Kilgoris.

During the COVID break in Kenya, Kemo was home with his family. One day he stepped on a stick in the wrong way, and it went through his toe. His mum took him to a local bush clinic, and they treated it as best they knew how. When school started back up this year, Kemo arrived with his foot wrapped and in a lot of pain.

Barbara was visiting the ECPK children in Kilgoris and noticed Kemo was unwell. She took him to the local hospital, and they X-Rayed his foot. One toe was badly broken and infected.

Barbara was able to take him to an orthopedic surgeon in a much bigger hospital where they cleaned the wound, repaired the joint and wired his toe back together. Kemo is now on the mend.

When Barbara told Carole of the cost, Carole smiled and said, “God provides before we ask!” Just a few days before, a generous donation was given to ECPK from a kind lady who said, “Please use this for sudden projects or needs that might come up.”

When you give to ECPK, you are not only sponsoring a child’s education. You are connecting a child of God in a poor country with the resources of God in a rich country! God’s love knows no bounds!

The doctors told Barbara, Kemo could have lost his foot if the wound had been allowed to remain untreated for much longer. The gift given to ECPK in Australia saved a foot thousands of miles away and allowed Kemo to continue his schooling as a whole, healthy and loved boy!

Thank you for your donations to ECPK. Every gift makes a difference!
