Little Grove 31-1-2021
This event saw a return to relative normality for ADHOC with a good turnout of members and some enthusiastic newcomers who did multiple courses. Course Setter Jen made good use of the area with the very small primary school map combining with a map-flip with the larger suburb map. Normal service was resumed on the Long Course with veterans John and Tony finishing 1 and 2 but with non-members (but regulars) Jon Cole & Kristine Rainer slotting into 3rd place just in front of members Rhett, Karen, Sydney & Ruth all within 15mins. On the Medium Course 10yr old Edmund finished 6 minutes clear on top with Tracey, Di, Tamara and Lyn all finishing within a 6min block. Non-members Luke & Denver Eiffler won the short course 2 mins quicker than 7yr old Ruth - but she went around the course a second time later on, in only 5 minutes when she was the second starter in an informal 'reverse chasing start' with Tracey, Tony, Edmund and John. Ruth was first over the line, then in rapid succession Tracey, (who pushed John out of the way), John, Tony and Edmund. Excellent practice for reading a map while going faster than normal!!
Next Event: Denmark 14-February
Tony Whittaker is the Setter in Denmark in a few weeks. Specific details are available from the club website, as always. Please, we would like a few volunteers for assisting with pack-up and control collection, we only need 2 or 3 people each event to shorten the day for the organisers who are on the go from 6:30am.
Informal / Training Event: Albany somewhere, 7 February
Members-only, but keep an eye on your email for the secret directions and details. Coach John will be setting a couple of courses near or in Albany Town that will help with specific orienteering techniques... maybe 'constant contact', or simplification, or control flow... Stay tuned.
