Puddletown Knitters Guild: February 2021 Newsletter
Thursday, February 11th, 2021
Virtual Program starts at 7 p.m.

Our meeting is virtual so we can stay connected to our fiber community.
Kristine and Adrienne share their travels to four countries, Iceland, Mexico, Japan, and Indonesia, where they visited natural dyers who use their locally-sourced dyes in dramatically different environments to create textiles that evoke beauty, a connection to the land on which they live, and showcase their mastery.

CLICK HERE to join the meeting via ZOOM on Thursday, 2/11
Did you have problems joining us in the past?

Our 2021 charity knitting project is Winter Warmth for Rose Haven Women's Shelter. Any type of warm item is welcome—hats, gloves, scarves, cowls, even sweaters if you are so inclined. Since their guests are all ages, all sizes and color schemes are welcome. Want to crochet or sew an item? Go ahead. Machine washable is the only rule.

Need yarn? Email Outreach for supplies.

MARCH MEETING:
Jennifer Berg of Native Knits presents We Are Still Here: Keeping My Culture Alive Through Knit Design
Jennifer will talk about sharing her Navajo heritage through Native focused knitting designs. She'll give us a tour of her home, family store, frybread stand (small example of tortilla making by Clara, Jennifer's grandmother) and talk about how she is keeping her heritage alive through design. She'll show her inspirations and talk a bit about appreciation vs appropriation. Jennifer will introduce her Tsekoh Cowl (Rock cut/Canyon), which was designed specifically for her visit to Puddletown, and which will be featured in the class she will teach for the Guild on April 17th and April 24th, 2021.
APRIL MEETING:
Carson Demers of Ergo, I Knit shares Tips to Knitting Longevity and Comfort
Let’s face it, we all want to knit forever! What’s your plan to get there? Here’s a talk that will give you an overview of what you need to have in mind to make your goal. We’ll discuss specific tips that you can take away and try in your knitting. And you’ll get some strategies for integrating them into your knitting routine.
Community Events
Starlight Knitting Society is participating in Knit City Virtual on Saturday, February 6th at 5 p.m

The Knit City Virtual event will be a full weekend of workshops, trunk shows and special events!

RCYC 2021 is Virtual!

2021 will mark the 12th year of the Rose City Yarn Crawl. RCYC organizers have made the hard decision to go virtual. The crawl will be extended to 10 days instead of its usual 4. Crawl from the comfort of your home and explore our Rose City shops.
Visit the RCYC website to learn how to participate in the crawl (and maybe you'll win a Grand Prize). Don't forget to follow RCYC on Instagram for updates.
We're using Zoom for our meetings and knit nights, but what is it?

Zoom is a virtual meeting program. There's no signup process or fee for you—just a quick registration.

When you click the event's link, you will be prompted to install Zoom if you haven't used it before. If you'd like to test it, you can click an event link at any time. Here's a quick video showing what to expect when you join the meeting.
Guild Leadership

If you'd like to be more involved with programming, special events, or administration within the Guild, we're looking for members to help sustain and grow our Board over the coming years.

For more information visit the About Us page, talk to one of the Board members at a meeting, or email us info@puddletownknitterguild.com.
Our mission is to promote a diverse community of knitters of all abilities, to support local fiber providers and artists from farm to needles, to model respect for the local fiber community by actively valuing their time and expertise.
