Welcome to the third edition of Pullenvale Post for 2021. This month, we discuss the State Government’s plans for the Kenmore roundabout, provide an update on the two Development Applications in the Ward that are generating plenty of feedback and other announcements of interest to local residents. KENMORE ROUNDABOUT CONSULTATION
|
|
Although Moggill Road is State owned and managed by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), we all have a vested interest in getting the right outcome at the Kenmore roundabout.
By now, you would have received in the mail a brochure from TMR outlining details about community consultation for the proposed Kenmore roundabout upgrade. The brochure shows their preferred option which involves removing the roundabout and signalising the intersection.
I was briefed by TMR officers prior to the release of the brochure and was given the opportunity to provide my feedback and any concerns I had with the proposal.
I encourage as many local residents, particularly those who travel through this roundabout regularly, to do likewise. It’s important the State Government gets this right.
The window for community feedback is now open but closes on 6 th April. To have your say either visit www.tmr.qld.gov.au and search for “Kenmore roundabout upgrade” and follow the links to complete the online survey or email your feedback directly to metropolitanregion@tmr.qld.gov.au TMR will be conducting information sessions at Brookfield Markets (20 th March), Kenmore Village Shopping Centre (25 th March and 30 th March) and the Bellbowrie swimming pool carpark (27 th March).

DEVELOPMENT APPLICATIONS UPDATE
|
|
The local community has been quick to provide feedback on two of the current Development Applications in the Pullenvale Ward that I mentioned in my previous e-newsletter.
Residents and community groups have until 1 st April to comment on the proposed entertainment precinct on the land between Brookfield Road and Princeton Street, Kenmore. To view the application Click here then search for the address: 21 PRINCETON ST KENMORE QLD 4069.
The notification dates for the proposed service station on Moggill Road haven’t been confirmed by Council yet, but feedback can still be provided through the Brisbane City Council website. Click here then search for "A005600514".
To clarify, all submissions received outside the public notification period will be taken into account by the assessment team. However, should Council’s decision ultimately be appealed, those who submit outside of the notification period will not have appeal rights. Public notification period has not yet opened for the service station DA. I will, however, advise the notification period for the service station application when it's confirmed.

Thanks to the many volunteers taking pride in our local community on Clean Up Australia Day earlier this month.
My colleague, Cr. James Mackay and I hosted a clean-up station at Green Hill Reservoir, Chapel Hill and then afterwards, I visited the Cubberla-Witton Catchments Network‘s clean-up at Kenmore.
It was a team effort at Green Hill with both the State Member for Moggill, Dr. Christian Rowan and Federal Member for Ryan, Julian Simmonds who provided a free breakfast for volunteers, getting down and dirty collecting rubbish with James and I.

DISTRIBUTION OF LORD MAYOR'S COVID-19 CHEQUES
|
|
Late last year, the Lord Mayor approved almost $90,000 to assist local community, cultural and sport and recreation clubs in the Pullenvale Ward to help them rebuild and recommence services after the coronavirus pandemic. The funds were made available for groups leasing a Council owned or managed community facility to help cover the costs of operating expenses incurred during their forced closure.
I’ve been meeting with a number of the successful local community groups in recent weeks and presenting them with their cheques.
The recipients were:
- Bellbowrie Sports and Recreation Club ($10,000)
- Kenmore District Junior Australian Football Club ($8,200)
- The Hut Environmental and Community Association ($4,766)
- University of Queensland Football Club ($20,000)
- Kenmore Girl Guides ($7,087)
- Moggill Girl Guides ($10,000)
- Cubberla-Witton Catchments Network($2,215)
- Mount Crosby Community Kindergarten ($2,668)
- Brookfield Horse and Pony Club ($7,837)
- Moggill Cricket Club ($7,122)
- Kenmore Districts Rugby Club ($10,000)

There are two remaining Council sitting days (including today), before going into recess for Easter and the school holiday period.
Since my last newsletter, I spoke about Council’s proposed Off-Road Cycling Strategy. There is considerable local interest in this, given Mount Coot-tha is utilised by off-road cyclists. Click here to read and watch my speech.
It is almost 12 months since I was given the honour of representing the Pullenvale Ward. I am listed to speak in Council today about what we have achieved in the Ward during the past year. A copy of my speech will be posted on my website www.gregadermann.com.au in the coming days.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner will deliver the Brisbane City Budget for 2021/22 on Wednesday 16th June.
It’s no secret that Council revenues are down as a result of the pandemic. But this administration plans to deliver a responsible and balanced budget that continues to deliver the infrastructure needed to ensure Brisbane is this country’s most liveable city.
I have identified a number of key projects and priorities across this very diverse Ward and submitted them for consideration.

The bollards and lockable gate have been installed on Priors Pocket Road. There are a couple more actions to be completed and with that, I expect it to be operating by the end of the month.
The gate will be locked each night at 8pm and re-opened at 6am the following morning. There is sufficient room between the bollards on both sides of the road for cyclists and pedestrians.
The installation of the gate followed a recommendation by local Police as a measure to stop hooning after hours on this road.

The Lord Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council this month was a valuable forum for Councillors to receive feedback from Year 10 students on a range of issues and what’s important to them in planning Brisbane’s future. It was great meeting with students representing a number of schools in the western suburbs.
Thanks to Kenmore South Primary School for the opportunity to address Grade 4 students on Brisbane City Council, the role of the Councillor but more importantly, talk about sustainability and what we can all do to make our community a better place in which to live. It was encouraging to see so many students aware of the importance of recycling.

It was an honour to be part of “scarfing up” with the Kenmore Scouts earlier this month. I look forward to working with the Scouts going forward and speaking in Council soon about the wonderful opportunities scouting provides to young boys and girls in the local community.
I know from years of experience of being around junior cricket games how important good shade is for players, parents and volunteers who score and provide the refreshments. So it was an easy decision when the Kenmore Junior Cricket Club asked if I could provide them with a marquee for their games.
Thanks to everyone who popped in for a chat about local issues at our first “Coffee With A Cop” session at Kenmore recently. We will be conducting these worthwhile forums each month at different locations throughout the Ward.
