FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER

The weather is ghastly, the dark dank days give little let-up to lockdown gloom and people are struggling.
But the good red Fitzhead earth pushes up ever more snowdrops, peeping primroses and the churchyard next door has a few wild daffodils bravely shivering in the sleet. The days are lengthening and we are so grateful that the vaccine is rolling out steadily and there is definitely hope now and a promise of better days ahead and a special offer see below.
Online shopping has come into its own and I am proud to say the new website is working well, thanks to my vigilant team. The Shop-Available Now is restocked after a festive battering - do take a look. Your purchases can be posted to arrive with you or your loved ones within a couple of days. The Royal Mail has come up trumps: the parcels are collected by the smiling daily postie and sped from my door to yours without adding extra delivery vans to our busy roads. It’s a great system. And in my bid to recycle, empty boxes including the packaging can be posted back to me for free p&p on a subsequent order!
With the lockdown, we are having to operate slightly differently. Rory is isolating, staying safe in the Blackdowns and throwing salad bowls from there; in not from his own studio I mean! At the moment the workshop here has been taken over with several tables as I paint an enormous tile mural. Another kiln load of tiles is red hot right now. I’ve been having tremendous fun and the finished panels are laid out so it’s just as well there are no visitors either at the moment. I hope to complete it this week and then get back to throwing.
Passing walkers and riders are pleased to see the busy pottery and eager to catch up on how life is going and share mutual encouragement. This village is a lovely place to be part of - very kind and supportive and I hope we may even be able to run the Thursday cafe again in the Summer. Locals can still collect their orders from the pottery.

Thanks to my sister Cath, I have a wonderful book to recommend : The Eight Mountains by Paolo Cognetti. For this month, I have found it a great way to travel to the Alps and Himalaya.
