Black History Month is an annual celebration focusing on the contributions of African Americans to the United States. This year, there are multiple free virtual events across the campus honoring the Black American culture. Check out the Blacks in Wax Weekend on Feb. 13 and 14.

History Of NC State Buildings

Documentation of a building's history is an essential tool in the planning and implementation of preservation projects such as our iconic Memorial Belltower. For the past year Rose Fortier, Plan Room Librarian in the Office of the University Architect (OUA), has been researching and compiling the histories of buildings across campus. Though other building histories exist, these are the first to focus on NC State's structures from a Facilities perspective. These living documents explain a building’s history, including when it was constructed and any major renovations, and present that data in one place with citation links to documents and webpages.

Bureau Of Mines Renovation

The Bureau of Mines Renovation project was recently accepted by the State Construction Office on February, 5th. Move-in activities will begin the week of February 8th. The Bureau of Mines building was built in 1945 and underwent a complete interior renovation, including adding a new mezzanine floor, fire suppression system, replacing the HVAC, electrical systems and exterior windows. The project also installed an elevator, modifies the building entry and stairs, and upgrades the toilet rooms.
