Linda "Lin" Elizabeth (Griffin) Halbrooks
1947 - 2021

Lin Griffin Halbrooks passed away on January 31, 2021. She was born September 22, 1947 in Birmingham, Alabama and was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew Warren Griffin and Linda Sessions Griffin, and her loving brother, Kirk Griffin. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Bill Halbrooks, daughters Libby Glisson (Todd), Maggie Stoffregen (Adam), and Burgin Vernon (Chris), and grandchildren she whole-heartedly loved: GraceAnn, Virginia, Macy, Wynn, Maddie, Brooks, and William.

She was a graduate of Shades Valley High School and The University of Tennessee. She and Bill shared a strong love of the Vols and enjoyed cheering them on and singing her beloved "Rocky Top." She was an elementary school teacher for many years and later enjoyed refining her talent as an artist. Lin's creative talent was displayed most beautifully in her ability to decorate for Christmas. She passionately loved the Christmas story and the Christmas season. She used her artistic talent to not only decorate her own home but was given the privilege to decorate the White House in Washington, D.C. and the Tennessee Governor's Mansion.

Lin enjoyed her grandchildren and being involved in their lives. She did her best to learn about the sports they played and the interests they enjoyed. Her presence at their games, recitals, plays, meets, and awards presentations was a reflection of her love for them. She loved celebrating birthdays and always enjoyed a family gathering. She cheered for her grandchildren whenever the opportunity arose. "Mami", as she was known for the last 18 years, was an integral part of each of their lives. Lin also loved to travel with family and friends. If she wasn't on a trip, she was planning one. She traveled to the Holy Land last February with Bill and a group from church. She enjoyed the beach and some of her greatest memories were found at Lake Martin with her family.

In September, Lin and Bill celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary together with family at the lake. It was a special weekend where they reflected on their marriage and the life they built together. Lin's faith was a foundation in her life and she and Bill enjoyed teaching the Covenant Class at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church where she was a member and served for over 40 years. Her faith was evident in the choices she made, the friends she surrounded herself with, and the manner in which she spent her time. Her faith and her family were her greatest possessions.

Due to current COVID restrictions, on Wednesday, February 3rd at 11:00am, a family-only limited service with LIVESTREAM (beginning at 10:50 am https://player.streammonkey.com/5dbc3190472cf) will be held at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church 2061 Kentucky Ave. Vestavia Hills, Alabama 35216 or Sozo Children 4, 41st Street South Birmingham, AL 35222.
