NEW YEAR, NEW CONNECTIONS
The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (Mobility Authority) is pleased to announce the upcoming delivery of not one, but two new connections: 183 Toll and 290 Flyovers Project. These critically-needed connections are opening over the coming weeks, and will transform our regional transportation network, increasing safety and connectivity for Central Texas.

183 Toll
As of Jan. 23, the entire length of 183 Toll from SH 71 to US 290 is open with tolling to the traveling public! And work on the direct connector ramps between 183 Toll and SH 71 will wrap up over the next several weeks, completing the 183 Toll Road.
Drivers should be aware that this has resulted in some changes to the roadway configuration you’re used to driving. The most significant change to note is that tolling has been turned on for sections of the toll road that had been free for the last few months while construction on the general-purpose lanes was completed. Drivers who prefer the non-tolled route can still use the new and improved US 183 general-purpose lanes adjacent to the toll road.

These openings also signal that the 183 South Project – the largest infrastructure project in Central Texas since construction of SH 130 – is coming to a close. Our crews will be finalizing some roadway elements, wrapping up the bicycle/pedestrian facilities, adding landscaping, as well as some exciting enhancements to the shared use path over the next several months.

290/130 Flyovers
In partnership with the TxDOT, the Mobility Authority began construction of the 290/130 Flyovers Project in November 2018 to address congestion and connectivity. The contractor, Webber, LLC, was incentivized to complete the project on an accelerated timeline, accounting for the early openings of the first two flyovers in January and July of last year.
Now the third and final flyover, a non-tolled connection linking eastbound 290 Toll and southbound SH 130, is scheduled to open in early February* – months ahead of schedule. In addition to providing drivers safe, efficient, free-flowing direct connections between the two toll roads, the project also benefits drivers who prefer the non-tolled option by freeing up capacity at the frontage road intersection.

The two flyovers connecting SH 130 drivers to westbound 290 Toll are tolled. The Mobility Authority accepts any of the following electronic tags: TxTag, TollTag, EZ-Tag, K-TAG, Pikepass, or BancPass. For more information on these electronic tag options, visit the Mobility Authority website.

AN UPDATE FROM
OUR PARTNERS AT TXDOT
TxDOT has switched to a new payment processing provider and toll road drivers should be aware that TxTag continues the transition to a new operational system.
I have a TxTag. How will this transition impact me?
- TxTag has a new website. When visiting the new website for the first time, you’ll be asked to update your login credentials including your password before signing in. Then you’ll be able to sign into your account.
- Toll transactions incurred from mid-November 2020 and into January 2021 have recently begun to post to customer accounts. As TxTag’s system catches up on transactions that occurred during the transition period, many customers will see transactions from multiple days since post to their account on a single day. Customers who participate in TxTag’s AutoPay program may see multiple account replenishment charges within a short period of time to cover the cost of these tolls. The Mobility Authority does not have control over TxTag’s AutoPay program.
- TxTag will not assess late fees while this transition is still ongoing. TxTag will notify customers via TxTag.org and email prior to late fees restarting.
What does this have to do with the Mobility Authority?
- The Mobility Authority accepts TxDOT’s TxTag on its tolled facilities and therefore, our payment processing has been impacted by this transition. Our operational system has just begun to process those TxTag transactions incurred from mid-November 2020 and into January 2021.
- This delay in payment processing should only impact drivers with a TxTag. Mobility Authority customers who do not have an electronic tag, opting to pay through our Pay By Mail program, and those with all other accepted electronic tags have not been affected. However, if you have an active TxTag and receive a Pay By Mail bill from this timeframe, please contact us and our agents will work with you.
- Due to the TxTag transition, we are experiencing unusually high call volumes and customers may experience longer than normal wait times when calling our customer service center. We appreciate your patience and cooperation. Please note that our agents are also available via chat or email to respond to inquiries.

MOBILITY AUTHORITY APPOINTS
NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Last Wednesday, the Mobility Authority’s Board of Directors named James Bass as the organization’s new executive director. Bass currently serves as executive director for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and will succeed Mike Heiligenstein at the Mobility Authority, who has led the organization since 2003. Bass will begin his new duties once Texas’ 87th Legislative session concludes in the spring; until then, Chief Financial Officer Bill Chapman will continue serving as interim executive director.
Bass has had a long and distinguished career, beginning his work at TxDOT in 1985. Throughout the years, Bass has risen through the ranks and taken on roles such as finance division director, chief financial officer, and, ultimately, executive director in 2016. His decades of experience leading a partner agency to the Mobility Authority and his state-level focus on improving the quality of life for all Texans make him uniquely positioned to lead the Mobility Authority into its next chapter.
