the brief

February 4, 2021

The weather may be getting cold,
but the semester is already heating up!

Whether you have a few in-person classes or you’re fully online, we want you to make the most out of the spring semester here at Chambers College.

From resume reviews and making employer connections to advising help and one-on-one tutoring, our College has packed the semester full with opportunities to help you succeed.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or want to review what you’ve learned in class so far, our Academic engagement Success Center (AeSC) is here to help you with Neidermeyer Scholars tutoring support, as well as writing and oral communication skills, presentation practicing, Adobe workshops through our Business Communication Center (BCC).

“The BCC has helped me so much. Over time I became less nervous to reach out for help, saw the same tutor each time, received tailored advice to my writing style and began seeing improvements in my writing skills,” said accounting and finance junior, Cara Thomas.

KEEP IN MIND

Prepare for the Fair

Are you reading for this semester’s virtual Career Fair on Feb. 25?

We want you to feel as prepared and as confident as you can, so our Center for Career Development (CCD) has organized helpful events and one-on-one advice leading up to the Career Fair.

How to Work a Virtual Career Fair

The CCD kicks off with two opportunities to provide you with tips on how to go about securing a time on Handshake, what you should wear, how to check your WiFi connection beforehand, and how you can stand out to employees during the fair.

Join the CCD on Feb. 9 or Feb. 22!

Recharge Your Resume: One-on-One Interviews

A great resume is key! No matter what you’re applying for – an internship, a part-time opportunity or a full-time job – a resume is the first thing employers will see. Make sure it’s professional and one to remember.

Join the CCD on Feb. 10 or Feb. 16!

Questions about one of the events? Email Sarah Glenn at Sarah.glenn@mail.wvu.edu or view more details and register on Handshake.

Chambers Ambassadors and Peer Mentors

Do you embody both the spirit of a Mountaineer and a business student? Are you someone who other students look up to on campus? Apply to be a Chambers College Ambassador or Peer Mentor by Feb. 21!

Our Chambers Ambassadors know the ins and outs of our campus, but they can also help others learn more about specific business majors, minors, student organizations, and College events.

Our Peer Mentors assist first-semester freshmen with their transition to college life as a business student at WVU by sharing their knowledge, skills and perspectives. As a peer mentor, you will attend BCOR 191 courses this semester and the students in their assigned section will be their mentees.
