Let's Keep Up Our Great Work Against COVID-19 Spread

Our County's Numbers are Headed in the Right Direction, Let's Keep it Up

It’s more important than ever to be patient, exercise good judgment, and adhere to health guidelines to keep our schools open for in-person learning: avoid group gatherings, keep social distancing, wear your mask, and wash your hands often.

Whether it's game day, a birthday, or another celebration, we ask you to remember that, for now, these events must look different. But you can still enjoy them "together" with a little creativity. Hold a virtual watch party, share and compare your favorite recipes on social media, or invite friends and family to participate in a DIY Super Bowl ad contest - just some of the great solutions we are seeing in the community to have fun together while apart. Ultimately, we are all in this together and we can each do our part to keep things headed in the right direction.

Looking Ahead to the 2021-22 School Year

Full-Time In-Person Learning and an All-Remote Option is Our Goal

As we look ahead to next year, we would like our community to know our plan is to offer full-time in-person learning for all grades, as well as a centrally run PK-12 remote learning option with synchronous instruction.

The details for the remote learning program are still being determined. We understand that remote learning was ideal for some families and that we have students who would like to continue with this learning model, even when COVID-19 restrictions come to an end. We are working to ensure we meet the needs of our community by offering robust learning options for Jeffco.

Families who wish to continue with remote learning in the next school year should still complete the EnrollJeffco process (open now) if they haven't already.
This lets us know which families intend to return to Jeffco Public Schools and helps with budget and staff planning. Families will have the opportunity to select the central remote learning program for the 2021-22 school year in early March.

Preschool Spots Available Now
Early Learning is Not What it Used to Be

In Jeffco, authentic, experience-based, hands-on learning begins in preschool. It's where we build a foundation of academic, social-emotional, and physical learning. We offer a wide variety of preschool options for three- and four-year-olds at 52 sites across our district. The curriculum includes core instruction and is aligned with a variety of learning models. Services supporting English Language Learners, special education, and social-emotional development are provided.

We have half- and full-day options for children who are three or four by October 1. We have openings now! Finish out this school year in the classroom! Or join us in 2021-22!

A Session for Families
Thu., Feb. 25, 5:30-7pm, virtual

Join us for this parent/guardian and family training where we will help parents understand how to support their kids with executive functioning skills.

Executive functioning skills are brain functions which help us to accomplish goals, overcome challenges, plan and organize activities, and work to complete a task. These skills are critical to learning and while some students acquire them naturally, others struggle to develop them.

Dr. Peg Dawson will teach participants how these skills develop and provide strategies families can use to help children be successful.

Middle Schoolers Can Earn High School Credit

Certain Math and World Language Courses Will Apply Starting Fall 2021

The Board of Education approved changes to district policy on graduation requirements allowing middle school students who complete certain math and world language courses to earn high school graduation credit beginning in the fall of 2021 (Board Policy IKF). Middle schools are in the planning process now working to implement this change. Watch for communication from your middle school to learn more.

Each February, #BlackHistoryMonth honors the achievements and contributions of African Americans to our country and communities. In Jeffco, we take this opportunity to focus on highlighting courageous Black leaders and celebrating Black voices and perspectives that demonstrate the experiences and contributions of foundational Americans. We hope you will visit our Racial Equity Resources page to explore the topic this month and all year long.

Becky Paschke
Named 40 Under 40 by Yamaha Music
Music @ D'Evelyn Jr./Sr. High

Fresh off leading D'Evelyn's marching band through a performance in the recent presidential inauguration, Ms. Paschke has just been recognized as a member of Yamaha Music's 2021 40 Under 40 in Music Education, which honors educators for their positive impact on their students, school, district, and musical community. Becky was selected from more than 450 educators from across the country. As you can read in this profile, a colleague wrote, “Becky is nothing less than AMAZING! Each year, she outdoes the previous year’s performance, and we are left with our jaws on the floor with what she has accomplished.” Congratulations Becky - thank you for all you do for Jeffco students!
Steven Langford
It's Not Just PE
PE @ Little Elementary

Coach Steven has pushed the Little community to engage families in different ways. His students are not just being taught how to exercise. He has incorporated science lessons on the human body and engages students with rich academic vocabulary. He meets with remote classes every day, exercising and dancing right alongside them. He plans activities that inspire kids to think about being grateful and giving, he makes family phone calls to check on students, and supports siblings of students in extracurricular activities. He promotes healthy living for staff, students and families. We are blown away by his enthusiasm, commitment, flexibility, kindness, and true educator spirit.

Senior Field Studies

Jeffco seniors study urban, rural, and wilderness areas of our state as part of the field studies program. Spending a week on a working farm, a two-week backpacking trip, and learning how cities work provides hands-on and experiential learning to prepare these students for the future.
