A Message From the High School Coordinator

Competition not Competitiveness!

I remember watching footy with my Dad as a young fella and I would ask him who he wanted to win, and he would say "I don't mind, just as long as it's a good game." At the time I thought he was so weird! I mean how could you seriously watch your team lose and think it was a good game!!! But funnily enough, these days I find myself saying exactly the same thing to my own kids. While being a fan of the Eels, the Swans...

Year 3
What a great start to the year it has been for year 3. We will be revealing our motto at the assembly but we can share our team name, which is the Year 3 Rockets. We were so inspired by Elon Musk's determination and persistence that Mr Westcott shared with us at the beginning of the year, we just had to include it in how we do business in our class. Everyone has settled in, ready for action.
Year 3 has been learning about writing recounts, visualising when they read to improve understanding and how to debug codes in Science to name just a few. Art with Mrs King is also a weekly highlight. There are so many great things we will be learning this year and we can't wait to share them with you as the year unfolds.  Mrs Nunn
Year 4
Love like Jesus! Care like Jesus! Do like Jesus! Speak like Jesus!
This is our 2021 Year 4 Class Motto created by the students themselves!
We, as a class, are all keen to put our class motto into practice this year! We have 15 students in Year 4; 9 girls and 6 boys. We also welcomed 3 new students into the class and we are all having fun learning together.
During these 3 weeks and also into the rest of the year, we are all planning to make our classroom the most fun and respectful place because we believe that learning, fun and respect equals success. In addition, we are all practising to speak life and encouragement into our learning and our own lives. In 2021, we will simply do our best and God will do the rest! Mrs Naqau

Cookie Archaeology
Students in Year 7 History and Years 9-10 Elective History tested their archaeological skills on some choc chip cookies in the first weeks back this year. Armed with toothpicks they searched for artefacts in the cookies - carefully prising out the chips while trying to avoid damaging their precious finds.
Miss Harris
Year 8 PDH
Year 8 started the year with their unit on puberty and the human body. With a few squirming seats and pink cheeks, the students have started learning that while their bodies are private and valuable, they are not shameful and should be understood.
Adolescence can be an overwhelming and frustrating experience for all concerned and this unit provides students with the opportunity to become empowered by the changes in their body rather than disheartened.
Year 8 have been encouraged to ask any questions either in class or by email and parents are encouraged to contact me if they have any queries regarding the unit.
Mrs Milne
Biology
Year 11 Biology have started positively in their studies of this course.
Year 11 have examined the arrangement of cells in plants. The images that have been included show the great work the students have been doing to demonstrate their practical skills. In this case, the students have prepared stained slides to view and then took photos through the microscope eyepiece. The blue one shows the arrangement of cells in an onion and the other shows cells in the tip of plant roots. The darker blue/black dye in the potato cells shows up the starch area.
It is amazing to think that God demonstrates aspects of His logical and creative thinking in all aspects of creation. From the largest and most distant objects seen with the human eye to the smallest things that require a microscope, there are patterns to be observed and admired.

Favourite School Memory: I remember as a child in Primary school being so amazed at all the stationary teachers had... their storerooms were incredible - brand new textas, crayons, coloured paper stashes, cellophane...I so wanted my own storeroom at home...And now I'm living the dream - Thanks Mr Westcott - I'm in charge of a whole big Art storeroom (bigger than what my teachers had). And I love the look on the kids faces when I bring out all the 'goodies' for our art lessons.

There's no shortage of encouragement, support and opportunities to praise God for what is happening in this great school.
