PNW Key Club recently spotlighted Division 82 for their outstanding service in our What’s Poppin’ PNW program. Here is a word from Lieutenant Governor of Division 82 Kaitlyn Kim: “A special thank-you to Ashland High School Key Club for diligently pursuing Southern Oregon wildfire relief efforts over the past four months! The club hosted a very successful car wash in the fall, raising over $600. They communicated with the Phoenix-Talent School Board President as well as the Phoenix-Talent School District Superintendent to identify the most crucial items needed for the wildfire survivors. In collaboration with the Ashland Kiwanis Club, Ashland High School Key Club helped organize the virtual Monster Dash Run for Education, which earned approximately $23,000. Half of the profits were distributed to wildfire survivors and families in the Phoenix-Talent School District. In addition, Club Presidents Alex Holden and David Johnson applied for the PNWOF grant and were awarded $1,000, and Key Club Lieutenant Governor of Division 82 Kaitlyn Kim applied for the Youth Opportunities Fund, and was awarded $2,000. With these funds, Ashland High School Key Club was able to purchase 25 space heaters for wildfire survivors to use in their unfurnished RVs during the winter, and are planning to allocate the rest of the money to camping stoves, propane tanks, and Crock-Pots.

A special Thirst Project fundraising spotlight is in order for Coeur d’Alene High School Key Club in Division 48 for their generous donation of $2,117.30. This time last year, Coeur d’Alene High School Key Club hosted a school-wide Thirsty 30 campaign to fundraise for their goal of constructing one fresh water well in the Kingdom of Eswatini, Africa. To help make the event a success, the Key Club first invited two Thirst Project Road Warriors to present at their school during an assembly, intended to inspire the students to take action in helping end the global water crisis. Then, Division 48 hosted a Divisional Council Meeting to prepare the materials for the campaign, such as decorating envelopes, cutting out paper water drops, and painting posters. Throughout the month of February, Key Clubbers were in charge of distributing envelopes and paper water drops to interested donors. In collaboration with DECA and the School Leadership Team, water jugs were placed at the student store to collect donations, and many students completed bingo board fundraising challenges. Before school and at lunch, Key Clubbers walked around the commons to inform other students of the cause and sell personalized merchandise including shirts, bracelets, and stickers. Now, their Key Club only has $1,500 left to fundraise to reach their goal of giving access to clean water to a community for an entire lifetime. Thank you to everyone in Coeur d’Alene High School Key Club for your continued support of this important initiative!
