BIDEN ADMINISTRATION RECOMMITS U.S. TO PARIS CLIMATE AGREEMENT!.  The Ignatian Solidarity Network reported that “the move on the first day of the Biden Administration signals to the world the renewed commitment on the part of the U.S. to global citizenship.  Re-entry in the Agreement will go into effect officially on February 19, 2021 and will include a new U.S. emissions reduction plan.”

The St. Francis Xavier Environmental Ministry presents an online forum on
Environmental Justice is Racial Justice
Sunday, Feb. 7, at 3 PM EST

In this webinar, we will look at the health impacts of land-use policies that allow polluting facilities and industries to be disproportionately located in low-income black and brown neighborhoods, what these communities are doing in response, and how we as people of faith can be allies.

Moderator, Marian Ronan, is a NY Theological Seminary professor, author, and environmental activist, and has been teaching since the early 2000s about environmental racism. 
Karen Blondel is a community organizer with Fifth Avenue Committee in Red Hook, Brooklyn.  She is a long-time environmental justice advocate, and conducts community training workshops.
Sonal Jessel is the Director of Policy at WE ACT for Environmental Justice. She is responsible for advancing WE ACT’s policy agenda for NYC, NY State, and the national level.

Reminder of Social Ministry Gathering

The Annual Catholic Social Ministry Gathering will take place virtually this year on February 6 - 9, 2021. It is organized by the Department of Justice, Peace and Human Development, 10 USCCB departments, and 18 national Catholic organizations!   There will be prayer, workshops, networking, and virtual advocacy visits with elected officials on the disparities revealed by COVID-19 and new models of justice and solidarity.  

There are three workshops related to ecological issues: "Advancing the Vision of Laudato Si", "Caring for Creation and Community", and "Environmental Justice and Health."
