Dear Colleague,

Welcome to our February newsletter.

We have been in the news recently. You may have read Martin Sandbu’s FT piece on The revolution under way in macroeconomics (paywall) , where we are described amusingly as departing from ‘methodological respectability’. This is a fair comment – where we see the value of going beyond the usual assumptions.

We are very pleased to announce that we are teaming up with the OECD’s NAEC initiative and Financial Times in a year-long seminar series on ‘The Future of Economics’. We start with a Roundtable on 19th March in the afternoon. Details will be posed here.

We celebrated our 50th publication last month with Franck Portier and colleagues' two working papers on Macroeconomic Fluctuations as Emergent Behaviour.

Four more projects have come to completion. Magda Osman’s project on Putting in Effort for the Benefit of All, Colin Mayer on Decentralised Reciprocity, Stephen Fisher on the Social-political Consequences of Regional Divergence and Henrietta Moore on Developing an Economy of Belonging.

Thank you to all researchers who have entered our research competition on Complexity and Macroeconomics. We are pleased to have received 26 entries. We will be reviewing all papers with our jury and expect to have a decision before Easter.

All information and videos of past conferences are on our homepage or can be found by clicking on the links. If you would like to join any of our events, please ask Richard at r.arnold@niesr.ac.uk

Thank you for your support and best wishes,

Angus Armstrong
