UMD Competes in Campus Race to Zero Waste for 2 Decades

The Campus Race to Zero Waste used to be known as Recyclemania, and UMD has been competing since 2001. During the 8 week competition from February and March, schools track and compare rates of waste reduction, recycling, and composting. In 2020, UMD ranked #1 of participating Big10 and Maryland campuses, and #25 nationally out of 145 schools. Help us top the charts again and follow Terps Recycle on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram for tips to recycle right, compost correctly, and limit landfill. Facilities Management Recycling & Waste Management Operations these and other important waste initiatives.

DOTS to Host Art Park for Park(ing) Day

The Department of Transportation Services (DOTS) continues to promote sustainable transportation, by inviting creatives to help create a UMD Art Park. This initiative is a celebration of Park(ing) Day- a day devoted to reimagining how parking spaces can serve people and ecosystems rather than cars. Submit a proposal by February 15th to transform a parking space into a mini-park, an art installation, or a sustainability display. We ask all creators to rely on non-toxic, upcycled, and reclaimed materials. In April, join the tour of exhibits safely distanced in person or virtually online!
