Be The Change You Want To See On Your Block...
Marlborough Community Coalition is looking for Block Ambassadors! With the support of the Health Forward Foundation, we’re collecting informational resources to help both homeowners and tenants improve their properties and create healthier blocks. This spring and summer Block Ambassadors will be out and about on many Marlborough Streets with Coalition trainers in bright reflective vests, distributing information and talking with neighbors. We will be sharing information about topics such as home repair, tax abatement, mortgage and lease assistance, and public health and safety.  And, we'll be listening to what neighbors say they need to build a healthier, safer neighborhood.
In addition to walking your block this Spring or summer, there are some ongoing things a Block Ambassador can do to build a strong block:
  • Connect people on your block in a way that works for you and your neighbors.
  • Help neighbors look out for the welfare of each other, the safety of children playing outside, and the protection of everyone’s property.
  • Share information provided by the Coalition such as programs to make home ownership and tenant/landlord relations easier, public health and safety tips, community events, or how to plan block parties.
  • Do what you can to increase the sense of community on your block. There is no set time commitment. We appreciate each volunteer’s unique talents. We will guide and support you.
There will be more information on dates and locations coming soon! Interested in learning more? Please be in touch in one of these ways:

Neighborhood Updates:
  • Did you know that Marlborough's own Arleta Park (77th & Prospect) is on KCParent.com's list of "Favorite Sled Hills in the Kansas City Area"? Marlborough Park (82nd & Brooklyn) has some good-looking sled hills too! Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather, sled in groups including adults, and follow COVID best practices.
  • When the snow melts, count the 336 small pink flags located close to the ground on the slopes of Rachel Morado Plaza - the cascading garden located between The Paseo and Hickman Mills Rd at 77th Terr. The flags mark the location where the city planted 336 small saplings to replace the trees lost during construction of that site. Kentucky Coffee trees, Black Cherry, Shagbark Hickory, Shingle Oak, Red Oak, and Burr Oak will minimize erosion and beautify Rachel Morado Plaza for generations to come. Thank you KC Water Services!
  • Follow the Coalition's Facebook page closely over the next few weeks to learn the 2021 Neighborhood Clean up Dates, see the Arts & Culture Task Force use an abandoned house as a canvas for native flower painting, and opportunities to get outside and dig in the dirt!
  • The Marlborough Community Land Trust's first renovated affordable house (8449 Wayne) is under contract! The renovation of the second house at 1401 E 77th Terr is expected to be complete in late Spring.
