Message from the Division Director

Dear Colleagues,

Some divisional updates:
  1. We will hold a shortened virtual GIM Research Day on May 28 from 12-1:30. Trainees are invited to submit abstracts for presentation (details below). All are welcome. Note that this will take the place of our usual citywide rounds slot, and the topics previously scheduled for this date will be rescheduled. Thanks to Drs. Fahad Razak and Lauren Lapointe-Shaw for leading this event.
  2. The core internal medicine PGY3s will complete their Royal College written examinations in March and their oral examinations in May. These exams are essential to credentialing and are extremely valuable for driving learning in clinical and physical examination skills. In order to provide time for exam preparation, the core program has determined that PGY3s will have a half-day off each week prior to the written examination. Supervising faculty are also encouraged to allow PGY3s to leave early (ideally at 4 PM) to allow for study time in the evenings.
  3. The GIM and other subspecialty PGY5s will also write their Royal College examinations in March. Many of these trainees have been redeployed to support GIM services throughout the second wave of covid-19, and we are grateful for their contributions. This has been a difficult year for everyone in medicine, and I know we will do all we can to support our trainees, especially around the times of examinations.
Sincerely,
Moira
Dr. Moira Kapral, Director, Division of General Internal Medicine, University of Toronto
