Hope you all are doing well. As I type these words the unthinkable has occurred... Snow?!? IN SEATTLE?!? And in FEBRUARY no less. Outrageous! Unconscionable! I, for one, will be writing our local Congresswoman. This aggression will not stand.
*Heavy sigh*
Our parklet will be closed this weekend until weather permits that we may open it back up for service. We will, however, still have our two indoor tables available for seating. If you're in safe walking distance of us and don't mind braving the elements, come on by and have a pint or two! We will also be closing our windows and cranking up the thermostat to provide a toasty shopping experience for all those who require a tasty beverage to sit and watch the snow fall.
For anyone out there who has been eagerly awaiting this moment, we are happy to announce that our latest collaboration with Best of Hands Barrelhouse, A Mansion has many Rooms low-gravity ale, is now on tap! This session pale ale takes low gravity beer to new heights. Featuring a heavy dose of Riwaka and Kohatu hops, it is a responsibly sessionable and low calorie option that doesn't skimp on the hop flavor. Aromas of kiwi, melon, and light citrus fruits blast off on a lean body dissolving into grapefruit on the crisp, dry finish. Come by for a crowler or a 4-pack and see what all the fuss is about.
Finally, I'd like to take a moment to apologize for the M.I.A. newsletter last week. I know many of you out there reading this schedule your entire day around our weekly transmissions, and that without it you must have felt utterly lost. I could offer some sort of half-hearted excuse as to what prevented me from completing it on time, but I know that it would only serve to ease my own anguish and not offer the sense of relief and justice that you must all be craving. All I will say on my behalf is that it will not happen again. Let the public flogging commence! ;-)
Cheers!
Sully and the Beer Junction team

Weekly Beer History + Fun Facts
Milkshake IPA
A subsect of New England Style IPA's, Milkshake IPAs (sometimes referred to as "Smoothie Style" IPAs) are defined by their characteristic addition of lactose sugar and fruit puree. Lactose (i.e. milk sugar) is unfermentable by ale yeast, so it persists into the finished beer, resulting in a sweet flavor and smooth, creamy body; functioning in much the same way as it does in Milk Stouts. Milkshake IPA's were first popularized by Omnipollo Brewing (Stockholm) and Tired Hands Brewing (Pennsylvania) but many other breweries were quick to follow suit. These hazy beers often draw their inspiration from the culinary world; brewer's seeking to create a boozy version of their favorite confection or sweet treat has influenced the recipe of countless Milkshake IPAs. This has lead to the inclusion all sort of unique ingredients for an IPA including vanilla, spices, candy, cereal, and tropical fruit purees. Brewers have found that tropical Fruit purees make a natural addition to this style as it further layers on a fruity tartness, tropical flavor and/or candied sweetness that perfectly compliments these highly dry-hopped hazy IPA's.
