5th February 2021 Mudlark

NO SAILING THIS WEEK

Given the ongoing mask requirement, 4 sq m rule, no standing at the bar and a dangerous weather forecast, the committee has regretfully decided to cancel formal training and racing this Sunday 7th February.  The Learn to Sail Course will be extended by an extra week. Apologies for any inconvenience. We expect the forecast 30 knot winds to have disappeared by next weekend.

AFTERNOON RACING CANCELLED - After some deliberation, racing will also be cancelled this Sunday 7th February.  The Championship heat due to be sailed this weekend will be sailed next weekend instead.
In addition to the strong winds, Seabreeze is 100% certain of heavy rains.  Please exercise common sense and caution if you plan to sail that afternoon.  Sailing on your own is not encouraged.  And remember your mask when not vigorously pottering on your boat.

We expect normal training and racing will re-commence on Sunday 14th February, subject to government directives at that time. Next Friday's newsletter will confirm arrangements then in place. Please Stay Safe.

Vale Ida Bennett
Each year, both Jim and Ida Bennett generously donated a sum to the Club for prize money and to recognize and encourage volunteers.  Jim is known to many of our long term members as a champion Moth sailor, father of Max who was a Mudlark champion and later sailed in the Lasers and other classes. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Jim,  Max and family.

LAST WEEK'S RACING

We had an emergency health lockdown announced via media after training, followed by
an enjoyable, strong sea breeze race day and a social meal before the 6pm lockdown.
The meal was a special spit roast (goat!), salad and rolls, prepared by club member Tom. Thank you Tom. Club member David Ponton said: “I thought the goat was 10/10 - best MYC dinner yet and we should do it again.”

Tom Arambasic and Mimi preparing the goat

Racing was over two very short courses to enable members to unrig, have a drink and a meal before the 6pm deadline. The breeze was certainly unusual, like the whole day really! There was no wind right up to race time, then there was around 20 knots all at once - and it kept gusting and swinging until after the racing - when it moderated substantially. A strange day indeed - so how else to end such a day other than with a meal of goat!

Only at Maylands.
