A Project of the Strawbridge and Martha Wilson Young Foundation
We had a snow day.
The quiet blanket of snow allows time to reflect.
Here are just a few of the things we are glad we did in 2020.
Started a YouTube channel and created six educational videos.
Built a beautiful split rail fence for that pasture (thank you Earl and Fred Young)
so we could welcome the draft horse team of Chubby and Claude,
but then we had to grow a lot of field corn to fill the corn crib,
which then then led us to learning how to make corn husk dolls.
We built two bathrooms on the main campus (no small feat)
Built the settlement cabin with a chimney using rocks from Shoal Creek (thank you Charles Dulaney)
Secured over $20,000 in grants (thank you CARES, TRAC, MCC, French Broad Coop, SBA)
Developed the Student Storytellers Working With Words program at Mt. Heritage High School
Learned to zoom, zoom, zoom — a lot
which allowed us to do all the behind the scenes strategic planning it takes to keep growing.
and most importantly,
we raised over $35,000 during our year-end campaign — more on that soon!
For now, let's go back to reflection. Please enjoy this winter poem
by Robert Frost, narrated by Dylan Wilson
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
by Robert Frost
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow. . . . . . . .
