Events to Honor Black History Month
Join us in honoring Black History Month and the ongoing movements for justice, equity, and inclusion for Black communities in Frederick, in Maryland, and globally. We honor the labor of many generations of Black Americans to make February a month of celebration and a chance for the nation to begin to honor the ways that Black people have shaped all aspects of life in this land and around the world. Two of our main College-wide 2021 Black History, Pride, and Culture events are included below. All are welcome. To register for either of these events, please email Thanh Thanh Saint Johns at tst-johns@frederick.edu:

  • The Intersections of Blackness: Shattering the Monolith - Thursday, February 25, 2:30 to 4:00 p.m., Zoom. In honor of Black History Month, join FCC students, staff, and instructors as we have a conversation about the powerful diversity within the Black community. Religion, skin color, ethnicity, immigration status, native language, sexuality, generation, multiracial identity, military service, dis/ability, gender, political ideologies, among many other differences, meet and impact Black lives in very specific ways. This conversation will center around what it means to explore Blackness at the intersections and how to find and define yourself outside of other’s perceptions and expectations. All are more than welcome—if you are part of the Black community or aspire to be an ally. This session is co-sponsored by Multicultural Student Services and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
