Hello and welcome to my latest newsletter...

This edition includes: what the 2021/2022 police budget means for you, a tribute to Captain Sir Tom Moore; a continued reduction in overall crime alongside investment into crime prevention; scams to be aware of; more funding for community safety projects and a range of campaigns that I proudly support.


Due to the new COVID-19 government guidelines, my
 office is mainly working from home and, whilst we are able to take phone calls to our usual OPCC number, I would encourage you to contact us by emailing opcc@westmercia.pnn.police.uk or by using our social pages 'westmerciapcc' on Facebook and Twitter. It is encouraging to see crime continuing to fall across Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Worcestershire...
I welcome the continued reduction in crime across West Mercia

It is encouraging to see that many crime types, such as residential and business and community burglary, continue to fall significantly.

I remain committed to working with partners and investing in crime prevention...
I have provided funding for 60 shed and window alarms in Shropshire

It forms part of my commitment to making communities in West Mercia safer.

The investment will deter burglars and protect elderly and vulnerable people from becoming victims of this type of crime.

Beware of scammers and fraudsters...
People lost more than £78 million in total to investment scams last year alone

I remain committed to protecting our elderly and vulnerable communities, who are disproportionately targeted by scams.

I am proud to join West Mercia Police in their support for Op Giantkind

Last year, £529.1m was lost to investment fraud. Op Giantkind is a national investment fraud awareness campaign running through to March.

Covid vaccine scam continues

An email appears to come from the NHS and asks the recipient to click on a link to accept/decline an invitation to receive the coronavirus vaccine.

If they click accept, they are asked to input personal information and their bank card details.

The NHS would never ask you for this.

Police dogs, like any well trained animal, need regular training

Each dog & handler must be re-licensed annually & complete a number of approved training hours.

It is a great honour to provide the resources needed to train these wonderful animals.

I am pleased to work with Telford & Wrekin Council to make a difference to communities

Telford & Wrekin Council and myself will be investing in a new Safer Communities Project.

Building on the success of the Brookside Safer Streets Project, an additional £1.5m will go towards preventing crime and anti-social behaviour in other areas, improving the quality of life for local communities.

I have set a new road safety strategy to further reduce road casualties

Too many people are killed or seriously injured on West Mercia’s roads.


As part of my commitment to improving road safety, I've set out a new approach to reduce casualties through prevention, ensuring that enforcement is effective, rehabilitating offenders and making sure victims are supported.

I continue to put victims at the heart of my commitments as Commissioner

I have provided funding to the Herefordshire Sanctuary Scheme.

The investment helps with the installation of security measures for properties of high risk, vulnerable victims of crime.

As part of my road safety commitment, I join the force in supporting Op Snap

The initiative allows members of our communities to submit their dash-cam footage to West Mercia Police via their website, helping to tackle road offences.

There were nearly 2,000 submissions in 2020, with over 95% of them processed.

Worcestershire County Council have pulled together resources to help organisations

In 1945, Soviet soldiers liberated Auschwitz-Birkenau.

We must continue to stand against prejudice & discrimination every day, and it is vital to remember those who lost their lives.
