Heritage Students Wins First Place at Spelling Bee
|
|
|
Heritage Middle School eighth-grader Camila L. won First Place at the Education Service Center Region 20 Spanish Spelling Bee! We are so proud of her and this accomplishment. Special thanks to her Spanish teacher, Mrs. Olga Cruz, for helping Camila prepare for the competition. Congratulations, Camila!

Campuses Celebrate the 100th Day of School on Feb. 4

Campuses celebrated the 100th Day of School with various fun activities, from counting out 100 items to creating necklaces with 100 items to dressing up to look 100 years old!

EC Alumni Spotlight: Katie Chain ('89)
|
|
|
Katie has done an outstanding job of not only supporting East Central ISD but education across the state. Katie works for H-E-B and manages their educational initiatives. She works tirelessly to connect industries across Texas with schools to promote high wage, high demand jobs. She initiated H-E-B's Internship program, helped ECISD begin its internship program, was a driving force behind CAST Lead's development and serves on the CAST Lead and CTE Advisory Committees. Katie is a staunch supporter of all things Public Education and works to ensure all students have an opportunity to be postsecondary ready.

Heritage Student Gets Surprised at Soccer

|
Heritage Middle School eighth-grader Julia M. was surprised at her soccer practice for being selected as the Superintendent's Student of the Month. Attending the surprise were Julia's parents, Jennifer and Matthew Miesse, her grandfather, Mr. Smith, and Heritage Principal, Mrs. Gomez. Coach Dixon and Coach Hollingsworth organized the surprise for Julia, an amazing young lady who is always safe, respectful and responsible. She places academics first and has a bright future ahead of her. Congratulations, Julia!

Fifth-grade student Emily K. at Oak Crest Elementary lends a helping hand to classmates in the Fine Arts classroom. She demonstrated how to play a C scale on the piano and showcased a song she wrote for her class.

Collaborative Effort Results in First Spanish College Information Night
|
|
|
On Feb. 4, East Central High School, the Bilingual Department, the College, Career, and Military Readiness Department, and the Marcom Department hosted the first-ever Spanish College Information Night! The event was held virtually on Facebook and YouTube Live. It included information in Spanish for families regarding college admissions, scholarships, FAFSA/TAFSA, Promises and much more. We're so proud of our teams and the collaborative effort to help all families!

Pecan Valley Students Observe Windy Weather

Students at Pecan Valley Elementary observed the weather this week during their Science class. They created weather tools (windsocks) to help determine the wind speed!

Oak Crest Student Represents District at Spelling Bee

Congratulations to Oak Crest Elementary fifth-grader Julian H. for representing East Central ISD at the Region 20 Spanish Spelling Bee (3rd-5th grade category). Julian is in Mrs. Hlebik's class at Oak Crest Elementary.

East Central High School's Health Science students wrapped up Urban Day Clinics in Honduras! The TeleSquad virtual clinical experience has elevated practicums for all students!

Heritage Choir Students Wow High School Directors
|
|
|
Heritage Middle School's Choir students finished a solo song unit last week. Eleven students, six of them remote learners, chose to share their video recordings with the Choir directors at East Central High School. All eleven students earned a Superior rating of "1" for their performance and will receive an individual medal for their hard work and success. Congratulations to the following students: Danielle B., Anya C., Ernesto C., Savannah F., Anastasia H., Crystal L., Sabrina O., Abigail O., Daphne R., Eliyana T. and Elaya W.. We are so proud of these super singers!

Big thanks to Dawn Lewis, secretary for the Maintenance Department. Ms. Lewis has been instrumental in the success of the Maintenance Department. She is always willing to assist anyone regardless of the issue or concern.

ECHS Law Enforcement Intern Builds Relationships

|
East Central High School senior and Law Enforcement intern, Karla P., builds positive relationships with Oak Crest Elementary School students and staff. Karla does an excellent job monitoring COVID-19 protocols and student safety.

Pecan Valley Students Walk Red Carpet after Writing
|
|
|
For the past two weeks, first-graders at Pecan Valley Elementary have been writing realistic fiction novels. They brainstormed characters, settings, problems and solutions, and then organized their writing into three chapters. Upon finishing, these authors walked the "red carpet" into their classroom and on their stage to present their stories! Their teacher set the stage with dim lighting, white table cloths, battery-operated candles and mini treats!

ECHS Students Recycle Pallets for New Project

East Central High School students, Jorge and Jay, are recycling pallets to build garden boxes for a community garden on South Campus.

ECHS Go Center Launches Freshmen Mentor Program

East Central High School's Go Center is very proud of its new Freshmen Mentor Program. Juniors and Seniors are paired with first-year students to build relationships, motivate, and work together to achieve their goals. Thank you to all these exceptional students for working hard and preparing for their future!
