Garden to Table
Certified Kitchen - Greenhouse - Food Center

We believe that everyone should have access to affordable and nutritious food. For over 10 years ADCG has demonstrated a commitment to youth empowerment, building community capacity, growing local food access, and addressing the root causes of hunger. Through years of providing fresh vegetables and cooking classes to our community, we understand that lack of cooking skills at home presents one of the main obstacles to community members accessing nutritious food. Working with a minimal cooking facility during the summer, we have positively impacted the lives of hundreds of people. Our new Certified Kitchen & Greenhouse will allow us to operate year-round to integrate and enhance our current programs towards even greater positive impact and community resilience. This project will increase the amount of food available for families and cooking classes, and offer a safe and hygienic space for everyone to grow, learn, connect, and be nourished. We will grow more seedlings, expand SNAP-Ed family cooking classes, preserve harvests for future distribution, grow youth food entrepreneurs, prepare community meals, and offer more ready-to-eat foods at the Farmers’ Market. Join us in support of LD 1159 – Resolve to End Hunger in Maine by 2030 by helping to build this great community resource.

Want to join this exciting community initiative? There are so many ways to get involved, now and throughout the building process. Just reply to this email and let us know you'd like to help!

ADCG is Hiring

Want to be part of an inclusive and hard-working team? The overall goal of this one-year position is to reduce barriers to nutritious, affordable local food access. While we serve all community members in our region, this project will include specific outreach to those eligible for federal nutrition programs. Our VISTA service member will leverage and develop our organization’s existing resources to create an integrated local food access program that connects low-income families with local produce, cooking resources, and community support, while utilizing federal nutrition programs whenever possible. VISTA will develop outreach strategies to engage SNAP participants in the Western Foothills region, and build capacity and resilience by implementing a volunteer program of mentors to establish ongoing support networks to promote local food access, community engagement, and healthy food preparation.

VISTA will address food-insecurity from a poverty-informed and ACES-informed perspective (training will be provided), building on the work of the
Oxford County Wellness Collaborative, to most effectively address the wide-ranging effects of poverty and to be equipped to provide appropriate resources. The outcome of this project will include a needs assessment, an increased number of community partnerships, an increase in the number of participants in ADCG food programs, increased utilization of federal nutrition programs and local food resources, and long-term strategies for addressing food insecurity. VISTA will write grants to help continue the successful implementation of long-term strategies beyond the duration of their work with us.
