Greetings Spinners,

For those of us that know and love Spinner Joel Hable who was involved in a very devastating bike accident in Canada in July of 2019 here is an update from his son Shane on his condition...

Thursday 1/28/21 Joel Hable and his son Shane made a visit to the South Beloit office of Altra Industrial Motion. He had been asking about work and co-workers and remembered my standing offer. I know lots of people wanted to see him, but Shane thought it best to keep it smaller this time.  They are being careful with Covid. We only removed masks briefly to get a couple pictures. They will definitely be back, and we hope to have more people present.

Joel remembers some things, and some people, so that’s an improvement from when Charlie and I visited him 6 months ago.  He doesn’t talk about his accident much anymore.
We stopped by the Module rebuild area.  Rick had an EM & power supply set up.  I engaged clutch and brake several times.  His face lit up when he heard the armature clicks.
He remembered our office, but not the new furniture by the windows.  That’s good because Marketing’s furnishings were not there when he was last here. We spent considerable time at his desk, going over catalogs, pictures, the Warner Auto Meter, etc.  We packed up a box of some of his personal stuff, like maps, pictures, etc. for him to look over at home. Next was a lab tour, 3D Print room, viewing some industrial testing.  He recognized some EP-1000’s that Tim has running.  Joel and Shane really liked the ProDrive testing in the hot room.
Overall, a very good visit.  I’m encouraged by some improvement in memory and speech.  He used a walker but can move around pretty good without it.

Next steps for Joel – he is going to a aphasia program starting next week.  Shane is taking him to (I think)Toledo, meeting Abbey (his dagger) there to drop Joel off. The in-patient, month-long program is intense 5-6 hrs/day speech therapy.  His kids have high expectations base on results obtained from other stroke patients.

The legal case is finally underway.  The driver that hit Joel has finally plead guilty.  Sentencing is in 2 weeks.  I didn’t ask any questions about liability awards or finances.

Both Joel and Shane said to say hi to his Warner Electric family and express appreciation for keeping him in our thoughts and prayers.

So what are the "Winter Spinners" a/k/a "The Stateline Stompers" been up to lately? Here is a report from Kurt & Kristy...

Hello all!
It's quite the winter weather we're having here in the Stateline area.  🥶  Due to the frigid temps and dangerous windchill factors lets try for next weekend.

Here are a few pictures from last week's stomp.

Here is a an email from Jeff Johnson about an opportunity for Spinners to voice their opinion about a road project on 213 that could benefit bicyclists in the future...

Hi Rick,

In today's BDN Regional Roundup there is a story requesting input to WisDOT regarding the 2026 resurfacing of Highway 213 from Beloit to Orfordville.  Comments can be submitted until March 15.  I have commented that a 4 foot bike lane and 45 mph speed limit be designed from County Q into the City of Beloit.  I'm wondering if you could include a pitch in the next Epistle for others to request the same.

This is the web address to the BDN article:

Here is the information regarding the project on the WisDOT website:

The form people can fill out and mail, no postage needed is at:

Thanks,
Jeff
