Australian Medical Women recognised in Australia Day honours


AFMW would like to recognise the contributions of medical women recognised by 2021 Australia Day Honours, and congratulate them on these achievements:

  • Professor Susan Ruth Davis AO - for distinguished service to medicine, to women's health as a clinical endocrinologist and researcher, and to medical education.
  • Professor Emily Banks AM - for significant service to medical research and education. 
  • Associate Professor Anne Marie Brooks AM - for significant service to ophthalmology, and to eye health organisations.
  • Professor Helen O'Connell AO - for distinguished service to medical education, and to medicine, in the field of urology, as an academic and clinician, and to professional groups.
  • Professor Jan Elizabeth Dickinson AO - for significant service to medical education, and to maternal foetal medicine.
  • Professor Amanda Jane Leach AO - for significant service to ear disease and research, and to Indigenous child health.
  • Dr Susan English - Donkers OAM - for service to the youth of Timor-Leste, to women, and to medicine.
  • Dr Carmel Crock OAM - for service to emergency medicine, and to medical education.

Open Forum Feb 13 - 'Introduction to AFMW'

 

AFMW Open Forums are are weekly Zoom meetings hosted by AFMW to provide a platform for members and Council to come together. This week the topic will be '2021 Introduction to AFMW'. 

Time: Saturday Feb 13, 4 – 5.15pm AEST, 5 – 6.15pm AEDT 

Who: All members are welcome to attend.

Invitation to participate in MWIA survey on COVID-19 experiences of healthcare providers

The MWIA Scientific and Research Subcommittee wants to hear about your COVID-19 experiences.  

MWIA is undertaking a survey  to learn about global experiences of female physicians during the COVID-19 pandemic and we are inviting you to share your experinces with us by participating in this survey.  This survey will be open until 30th April 2021.

AFMW to host Parallel Event at
65th UN Commission on the Status of Women


The 65th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW65) is to be held as a virtual event from March 15-26, 2021. AFMW has been awarded the opportunity to host a virtual Parallel event. Details as follows:

Topic: COVID-19 Changed Everything - Australian Women Doctors as Gender Equity Advocates 
Date: Saturday, March 20
Time: 3-5.30pm AEDT

MWIA Western Pacific Region Meetings 

 

In 2021, the MWIA Western Pacific Region, lead by Dr Desiree Yap (AFMW), is hosting a series of one hour 'get to know our colleagues in the region' Saturday afternoon interactive webinars. On Feb 6, the second seminar in the series was presented by AFMW President, Dr Magdalena Simonis, on behalf of AFMW.  

Recordings of these meetings will be made available to members unable to attend in person.
