The World Bank and The Secretary of Ministry of Urban Development jointly launched the Nepal Urban Governance and Infrastructure Project. This four-year, $150 million project's goal is to promote sustainable urban development and to support post-COVID-19 economic recovery in strategic secondary cities.

The deadly impact of fires cannot be understated: every year, more than 180,000 people die in fires or from burn-related injuries worldwide. Inadequate planning, infrastructure, and construction practices related to fire prevention and mitigation significantly increase the potential for conflagration, fire ignition and spread. Proven approaches through building and fire regulation include appropriate enabling legislation; well-designed and implemented building and fire regulations; and adequate capacity to undertake building fire safety plan reviews and construction inspections.

Myanmar’s doctors have vowed to shut hospitals across the country as public protests intensified amid calls to defy the new military regime that took control of the government and seized civilian leaders in a coup on Monday.
