CARL and Portage Response to “Data Repository Selection: Criteria That Matter” (CARL-Portage, January 25)

CARL and Portage would like to express concerns about the Data Repository Selection: Criteria That Matter, recently proposed through the FAIR Sharing initiative. The proposed approach, developed primarily by a group of publishers, will have a negative effect on the development of Canada’s national infrastructure, on research equity, and on the rights of marginalized and under-served communities to fully participate in the scientific process. // L’ABRC et Portage souhaitent partager leurs préoccupations quant au document Data Repository Selection : Criteria That Matter, récemment mis de l’avant par l’initiative FAIR Sharing. IFLA Submits Comments on Draft UNESCO Open Science Recommendation (IFLA, January 21)
IFLA has submitted a response to UNESCO on its draft Open Science Recommendation. These comments focus on the importance of collaboration, openness, equity and inclusiveness, “as well as ensuring that other aspects, such as promoting copyright reform at the international level and the full range of roles that librarians can play, are properly recognised.” Read more

First Public Working Draft: W3C Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 3.0 (World Wide Web Consortium, January 21)
"The Accessibility Guidelines Working Group (AG WG) has published a First Public Working Draft of W3C Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 3.0. WCAG and supporting materials explain how to make web content, apps, and tools more accessible to people with disabilities. W3C Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 3 has several differences from Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2." Read more

New Release: Communication Toolkit for Implementing Effective Data Practices (J. Aiwuyor, ARL, January 27)
The Association of Research Libraries (ARL), California Digital Library (CDL), Association of American Universities (AAU), and Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) have released this “communication toolkit for facilitating institutional communication and discussions around the broad adoption of persistent identifiers (PIDs) and machine-readable data management plans (maDMPs).” Read more
