Additional Safety Measures for In-Person Learning

As required in the state’s revised guidance, the District 196 plan to safely return elementary students to in-person learning includes the following:
  • All students must wear a face covering.
  • All staff must wear both a face covering and shield when working with students or around other adults.
  • Students will receive a majority of support in the classroom to limit movement in the building and there will continue to be no visitors, volunteers or large group events, like in hybrid.
  • Students will remain in their classroom except for outdoor recess and physical education classes.
  • Students will maintain 3 feet of distance from other students, whenever possible, and staff will maintain 6 feet of distance from students and other adults, whenever possible.
  • Students will eat meals in their classroom after going to the cafeteria to pick them up.
  • Specialists will come to the classroom to teach, except physical education, which will be held in the gym or outside.
  • Activities will be adjusted to support social distancing.
  • Staff will continue to reinforce good health and hygiene practices with students.
  • All school staff and families are asked to complete a daily at-home screening before leaving for school each day.

Getting Close

Student-Teacher Assessments: Feb 10-11

This year District 196 has converted our second round of parent-teacher conferences to a second opportunity for one-to-one teacher-student assessments. February 10 and 11, from 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM your child will have the opportunity to schedule an appointment with the classroom teacher to meet for an in-person literacy assessment.  Our hope is for every child to meet with their assigned teacher, whether they are in-person or 196 Digital Academy. More information will be coming soon about signing up for assessments.

From the Nurse

Parkview Community,

Please continue to inform us if you or your child is ill or experiencing symptoms, if you or your child is identified as a close contact to someone who is COVID-19 positive, and if there are any positive test results in your household. You can access the online reporting form via the Parkview website or at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeFW391z9UEPTe-H9oyVqktf1MDHPwZ3vcvE4c4Q9gbOepspQ/viewform

It is important you and anyone in your household stay home and discontinue any activities outside of your household if you are feeling sick, regardless of whether symptoms are related to COVID-19. Less common symptoms of COVID include: sore throat; nausea; vomiting; diarrhea; muscle pain; fatigue; headache; nasal congestion; runny nose, and chills. More common symptoms include: fever over 100.4; new or worsening cough; difficulty breathing, and a new loss of taste or smell. Unfortunately, because community spread of COVID is so high, we cannot rely on “it’s just a cold” or “it’s just allergies” until COVID has been ruled out via testing.

The state of Minnesota is providing barrier-free testing to every resident. You can order a test online and have it shipped to your home at no cost. Included in the test are instructions for taking the test and consulting with a health professional. Order your free at-home saliva test at https://learn.vaulthealth.com/state-of-minnesota/. You can also find free testing locations with scheduled appointment and walk-in availability at https://mn.gov/covid19/get-tested/testing-locations/index.jsp

Remember, please fill out the attendance form or contact the office, if you or your child is ill or are experiencing symptoms, if you or your child is identified as a close contact to someone who is COVID-19 positive, and if there are any positive test results in your household. We will assist with screening your symptoms and walk you through the reporting process if symptoms are deemed COVID-19 related.

Be well,
Nurse Alecia

Board Members Needed for Next Year's Board

Do you want to make a difference at Parkview? Nominations for Board members will be open in the next month or so with elections taking place in May. There are several board members who will be "retiring" this year. Generally, board positions are held as a team of two thus having 8 board members. Board member meetings are held once a month with general PTO meetings being held on the second Tuesday of the month during the school year. We would love to have you join our next PTO meeting on February 9th to find out more. Here is a summary of the positions on the board:

President - coordinate the work of all the officers and committees so that the purpose of the organization is served. (Effort: year-round, on-going)

Vice President - The vice president shall assist the president and carry out the president’s duties in his or her absence or inability to serve. (Effort: year-round, time varies depending upon roles)

Secretary - The secretary shall keep all records of the organization, take and record minutes, prepare the agenda, handle correspondence, and send notices of meetings to the membership. The secretary also keeps a copy of the minute’s book, bylaws, rules, membership list, and any other necessary supplies, and brings them to meetings. (Effort: 3-4 hours per month, includes
attending meeting and typing up minutes)

Treasurer - The treasurer shall receive all funds of the organization, keep an accurate record of receipts and expenditures, and pay out funds in accordance with the approval of the Executive Board and Parkview Elementary PTO Financial Guidelines. He or she will present a financial statement at every meeting and at other times of the year when requested by the Executive Board and make a full report at the end of the year. (Effort: 4-5 hours per month, average)
