Grub: I am excited to start reading one of Timothy Caufiled’s books, Relax Dammit, in the meantime here is his twitter feed and a good article he linked to on common diet myths. #keepitsimple #cook #noonesizefitsall
Sleep: I have talked about basic sleep hygiene but how about a few more ideas which are used in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia. Insomnia is a clinical diagnosis but the behavioural changes could be helpful for anyone trying to improve their sleep.
Exercise: to stretch or not to stretch:) A nice review on how a bit of static stretching prior to your sport aint so bad afterall. Like so much of our exercise regimes a lot of what we do comes down to personal preference. If you like a good slow stretch prior to your active warm-up, by all means go for it!
Book plug: Obama: A Promised Land. Ooow what a read...a tomb of a book considering it’s only part 1, but the stories are captivating and his life illuminating. The biggest lesson for me was that even the greats have imperfections. He didn’t do everything by the book, screwed a few things up in the past, but he moved past them and made incredible progress. It was a good lesson in self compassion and empathy. Both of which he seems to have in spades.
Five books I am excited about reading in the coming months:
Joy of movement
Passion Paradox: The Counterintuitive Guide to Achieving Success Without Ruining Your Life
Range: Why Generalists Triumph in a World of Specialists
Science of running: Analyze Your Technique, Prevent Injury, Revolutionize Your Training
The Company: The Rise and Fall of an Empire
Lastly a little plug for blood donation. It is a simple and rewarding way to give back. It doesn’t take anywhere near as much time as it used to (very streamlined) and they still offer cookies:). See if you are eligible.
