What's in bloom?

Here are a few specific spring blooms to look for...

Ultra-fragrant tender species rhododendrons, daffodils, apple blossoms, plum blossoms, plus native wildflowers like Pacific bleeding heart and the ever-so-charming "footsteps of spring” which looks like bright green paint spots on the bluffs.

The Sprouts Program at MCBG
Nature Breathing & Whale Watching
March | Activity guides available at MCBG entrance or online

Searching for an excuse to get the family outside... why not give this month' s Sprouts activity a try? MCBG is offering a series of self-guided learning opportunities for children (best suited for K-6). Sprouts activities include handouts and sometimes fun tools to help kids dive into a variety of topics including birdwatching, colors in nature, pulley systems, getting to know trees, and more.

This month's activity is "Nature Breathing". Take the whole family on a relaxing journey through the Gardens as you learn to "breath like a tree" from your leaves to your roots or practice "Bunny Breathing".

These activities are available with regular Gardens admission. MCBG will continue to share free admission for children's educational visits via "Sprouts Tickets". The tickets are currently being distributed through local schools and nonprofits.

Plan on visiting again in April or May to complete the next Sprouts activity – Pacific Coast Tree ID and witness peak bloom of our Rhododendron Collection! Learn more about the Sprouts Program and our fabulous sponsors...

Members make it possible
We would like to welcome LitHouse to the MCBG family! The local business joined Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens with a Business Patron membership. Perched along the rugged coastline of Mendocino, California — LitHouse ™️ is a multi-award winning, legacy flower brand, founded by two brothers Allan and Kris Harris.

We would also like to express our gratitude for the invaluable support each and every member of the Gardens provides. Our members help keep the doors open to this living realm of wonder and inspiration for all. North Forest Project wrapping up nicely
Take a stroll over this gorgeous new redwood bridge and check out the North Forest’s magnolias, rhododendrons, and conifers!

Thanks to funding from the Stanley Smith Horticultural Trust, we were able to improve and expand upon the North Forest portion of our Conifer Collection. Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens’ collection contains nearly 200 varieties and is a American Conifer Society Reference Garden.

Bringing the Gardens to you
Fill your days with beauty as we continue to post images of blooms and scenes from our 47 acre garden by the sea on the MCBG YouTube channel, MCBG Facebook, and Instagram feeds.

Check out our latest video (click above) to learn a little about the Vegetable Garden and the produce we donate – more than 7,500 pounds in 2020 alone– to the Fort Bragg Food Bank.
