Changes to ATO Business Portal
The ATO have launched a new service! Online services for business is replacing the Business Portal.
Online services for business is made with you, for you. It has been co-designed with business and makes it easier to interact with the ATO online, to manage tax and super obligations.
It offers a range of new features such as:
- making a payment plan
- obtaining copies of income tax returns
- quickly navigating between the ABNs you manage using Switch ABN
- viewing your communication history
Online services for business can be accessed on multiple devices, including a smart device like your phone or tablet. Find out more here.

JobKeeper Extension 2 Has Started
The second JobKeeper extension has started. It covers the JobKeeper fortnights between Monday 4 January and Sunday 28 March 2021.
You might be eligible for JobKeeper extension 2, even if you weren’t eligible for extension 1. If you are eligible, you can enrol for the second JobKeeper extension until the end of the program.
To be eligible you need to show that your actual GST turnover declined in the December 2020 quarter relative to a 'comparable period'. This is generally the December 2019 quarter. Find out more here.

The Tuck Shop by Soul Projects opened for business this week. A Mount Gambier icon, the little building on Wehl Street South was constructed in the 1940s and serviced the Reidy Park Primary School and community until the 1970s. Regional Event Fund - Now Open
The Regional Event Fund provides financial and in-kind support to events that promote South Australia and its regions as tourism destinations. There are four categories of Regional Event Funding available;
Significant Event Funding (From $50,000): Up to three years funding for new large-scale signature events that have the potential to be nationally or internationally significant and which provide substantial visitation, media and profiling opportunities and economic impact for South Australia.
Established Event Funding (From $20,000 to $50,000): Up to three years funding for events that can demonstrate a strong record of growth and a strategy for event innovation.
Development Event Funding (From $10,000 to $20,000): Up to three years funding for events that demonstrate potential for growth & development.
Emerging Event Funding (From $5,000 to $10,000): Up to two years funding for events that are 1 – 3 years young, with a focus on community events.
Applications to the Significant Event Funding category will be accepted year-round, with funding available from 1 July 2021. All other categories will have two intake rounds, with round one now open and round two opening in August 2021. For further information, read the FAQs and the Guidelines.

Building Better Regions Fund
Funding to improve community capabilities and projects that provide economic and social benefits to regional and remote areas.
Grant funding is available through two funding streams:
The Infrastructure Projects Stream supports investment ready projects that provide economic and social benefits for regional and remote areas. Projects can include construction of new infrastructure, or the upgrade or extension of existing infrastructure.
The Community Investments Stream supports new or expanded local events, strategic regional plans or leadership and capability strengthening activities that provide economic and social benefits to regional and remote areas.

Recycling Modernisation Grant Program
The Recycling Modernisation Fund aims to improve recycling outcomes and address critical gaps in Australia’s recycling infrastructure. The funding supports the waste export bans for plastic, paper, glass and tyres.
The funding is to install infrastructure and provide innovative approaches to increase the supply of quality recycled materials available for use, and increase the capacity for domestic sorting, processing and manufacturing of materials affected by the waste export bans.
Private sector, non-government organisations and local government organisations can apply for grants from $500,000 to a maximum of $10,000,000. Applications close 26 February 2021. Find out more here.

Fringe is Back for 2021!
Fringe Mount Gambier will return in 2021 in a modified COVD safe way. 2021 will have three different streams of Fringe:
- FringeUP which you've all come to love, will see businesses and homes and schools decorate in the blue mushroom woodlands theme.
- FringeIN will bring content to your homes via the internet, and also capture content created in the community (yes, YOU!)
- FringeOUT will be events in venues that can manage to host performances under whatever restrictions are in place, as well as outreaching to put artists in schools and aged care facilities if possible at the time.

Funded by the Australian Government's SME Export Hubs Initiative, Team.eX is a specialist business program that provides SMEs with the tools and support to develop business maturity and come together to build the capacity and capability often needed to compete for the major projects and realise export success.
Team.eX maximises the opportunities for Australian manufacturers and cyber security companies to capitalise on the massive growth in the defence, cyber security and advanced manufacturing sectors worldwide. This program will benefit SMEs in the regions working towards growth in defence and adjacent industries like mining, renewables, oil and gas.
Team.eX focuses on the How-To of forming robust and successful alliances with industry peers. The program is open to SMEs of all maturity levels and aligns with ISO 44001 – Collaborative Business Relationships.
